red delicious sucks, they're always mushy on the inside. yeah i know they have the most antioxidants but they taste like grainy ass.

it's all about the Pink Lady.

i keep rotating between fuji, gala, and pink lady. i'm beginning to think i can't tell the difference, but i've never really had them side by side, it's always days apart

I'm half way through a big bag of them. (y) Honeycrisp season is the best time of year.

By the way, I think they were invented by my university.

My father's family owned a major apple orchard in Tasmania (which is known as the "apple isle"). They grew a variety of apples called the "Geeveston Fanny" hehehe.

there's a stand at the farmer's market closest to us that sells all kinds of neat apple varieties, and they have the best dried apples i've ever had. no sugar added, even! next time i'm definitely buying some of the other stuff.

their site is so cute it hurts (http://hasapplefarm.com/index.htm), check out the tour given by the dog

my mom has a tradition of going up to oak glen (http://www.oakglen.net/), a valley a couple hours away, that grows every kind of apple under the sun. i've had everything from apple cookies to apple butter to apple pancakes there, and seriously, it's rad. the best cider i have ever tasted. the best was when my mom bit into a caramel apple and one of her crowns came out...it was the $400 apple from that day on

one of the most fun aspects of my job is getting to look up stuff on weird varieties of fruit. this little article about the angelcot (http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/homestead/2005-January/003468.html) made me smile a whole lot.

Chili dog! ROFL!!!!

I like Åkerö and Signe Tillisch. Then there's one really red one, very flour-y, can't remember its name right now (Mio? Maja? Mido?),
but that would be good to make apple sauce with.

Loads of kids at my work have loads of apple trees (or rather their parents...) so I made a project to make apple sauce with them.
I'd never done it before so I had to make one batch at home first and it is ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN' DELICIOUS!!!!
So kids brought jars (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2411/1806066942_9506f4805f.jpg?v=0) from home, and some even apples. We had to go to Calle's (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2020/1805332425_49a2463bfb.jpg?v=0) and pick some more cause some kids brought some big jars.
I let them cut up the apples with sharp knives (propably the first time they were allowed to use them so they were very excited) and
then boiled the apples until they were soft.
Then the apples were passed through this sieve (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2252/1806067898_db12ed176c.jpg?v=0) to get rid of the peels, and to make the sauce soft.
We added (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2283/1805220211_f792ead47c.jpg?v=0) some ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C, the sauce doesn't turn brown) and benzoid (it won't get moldy) and loads of sugar,
boiled some more and then poured (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2037/1805222161_5a600da942.jpg?v=0) in the jars.
Kids made their own labels (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2083/1806074038_bb10cc0853.jpg?v=0) for the jars and took the goodies (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2363/1806073378_4fde73067d.jpg?v=0) home!
Hopefully they will remember this for the rest of their lives...
