...The Wrath of Khandess.

What's funny to me is when people who have these fucked-up spellings get irritated if you don't get their name right the first time.

Xochalt. Xochalt?

"Uh... ZOchalt -- "

"Social!"

"Huh?"

"It's pronounced social. Gawd!"

What kind of name is that?

something pronounced social?

Bob

what's weirder is people who have normal names, but pronounce them differently. like i know an "amanda" who pronounces it "amahnda" (but i think she's from cuba or something and that's how you'd pronounce it spanish so i guess it's ok). and there was some story about a girl named "megan" (prounounced "meegan") who kicked some guy in the nuts so hard he had to go the hospital because he pronounced her name wrong

Yep. That's a paraphrase of an exchange I had with a girl. I was reading her nametag. I think it was at a coffee shop in Sacramento,
if I remember right.

Funny thing was: I got back to the table with my buddy and told him, and he said he'd actually seen that before with someone else.

Xochalt!? Weird.

We had a kid at my old church who went the "dah VEED" route with his name (David). Yeah, I get it: you're an artsy guy.

Someone tried to lay that on me one time and I gave them a look that killed their whole family.

Xochalt!?

I'm pretty sure it's Aztec or Mayan origin. definetly central mexico.

I found this similar name:
The meaning of the name Xochitl is Flower

The origin of the name Xochitl is Aztec/Nahuatl

See? They took a perfectly decent Central Mexican name and California-ized it. (n)

What's your name? Is it Peter?

If this were England, maybe it's be Petre.

If it's Peter, I don't know. That's kind of hard to fuck up.

Ptur, maybe.

The law says that you can pronounce your name anyway you want to as long as you spell it the way it is on your legal thingys.
So you could legally pronounce David as Hank, you know, if you wanted.

abcdefz
10-25-2007, 11:06 AM
How funny you say that. I wrote a book once where my surrogate's name is Hank. Mainly picked it because I've never liked that name.
