Does anyone else own this record?
I think it is a classic that does not get enough credit. When I talk with my friends about rap and mention him, it is like "Who the F is that?".
Today's unenlightened generation of hip-hop fans need to wake up and listen to true school.

The fuck outta 'ere with this shit.
Hats off to the old school everytime. Don't forget "It's yours" was the very first Def Jam release.
Is it just me or does he look like Eddie Murphy as the Nutty Professor in those Myspace photos!?

T La Rock is a top MC - I love that era of Hip Hop - T la Rock was really into exploring vocabulary and in this regard I think you could draw comparisons to some of the Beasties' rhyme schemes. (I think on some of the HN, TT5B tracks and b-sides they're purposefully trying to be the first MCs to rhyme some unusual words - but this is just a theory of mine)
Of course - The boys (Mike and Adrock I believe) were in the studio at the time when 'It's Yours' was recorded with Rick Rubin and it's clear that Adrock has a bit of a drum machine obsession (like me!:)) - I think I read somewhere that it was through his drum machine programming in the early Def Jam days that Adrock earned his 'King Adrock' title - but I might be getting mixed up a bit somewhere with that? - Can anyone verify/deny? I really like that picture in Ricky Powell's 'Oh Snap' book of Adrock programming a drum machine that's amped through a guitar amp, whilst smoking a spliff on the back of a bus.
I'm a big fan of T La Rock's 'On a Warpath' track myself, which flips a slightly different break from The JB's 'The Grunt' to the break the Beasties utilise on Paul's Boutique - both are sweet as f...

"commentating, ILLustrating,
description giving, adjective expert........"
i think "it's your's" by t la rock goes a little something like that.
the man is-was-will continue to be a rhyme scientist. the man straight crushed the hip hop scene throughout the 80's, and his work with MANTRONIK (breaking bells, etcccc) is off the charts.
his rhymes are travelling at the speeeeeeeeeeed of sound through the cosmos as we speak..

The break is of course from 'Get up, get into it get involved' by James Brown. It features on the Sounds of Science on PB, and loads of other Hip Hop from this period uses the bare drum break (such as Big Daddy Kane's 'Raw' or the guitar stab such as on Showbiz & AG's 'Giant in the mental' or on Kool G Rap & Polo's 'Poison'.
The moral of the story is - don't get stoned and then try and communicate with the world online - you'll get your breaks mixed up and make a fool of yourself!:o
