best friggin show ever. i have all the series on dvd. Craig Charles was on the weakest link the other night, he pulled out the best link
ANNE: so what was the name of the show you were on
CRAIG: That'd be Red Dwarf, actually i think the show was named after you Anne!
it's weird seeing lister in coronation street.
I wonder if they will ever do the smeggin' film?

I wasn't too happy with all that prison malarky, it all got a bit claustrophobic and sit com for me. I prefer it when they were out finding new shit (y)

I finished my dwarf-a-thon last night, well morning, 6 AM.
I skipped bits of series 7 because it was too horrid, but series 8 was decent.
My favourite series are actually 1 & 2. They are far more character driven. It's a sitcom which happens to be set in space.
From series 4 on it became too much sci-fi and not enough jokes, for my liking. It's still good, but not so much laugh out loud stuff.
And series 6 is worst, because it's the same storyline over and over. And Rimmer became this horrid person.
Ok, ofcourse Rimmer was always horribly stuck up and cowardly, but in the first series you see why he is like that and that underneath he isn't such a bad guy afterall. His behaviour is just a defence mechanism. But in series 5/6 he just becomes evil. He deserts his crew-mates, and only friends, just so he won't get killed. And because he's just annoying now, he doesn't seem as funny as before.
That's why I think series 8 is actually ok, though many people seem to hate it. In series 8 the episodes are about the jokes again, and the relationship between Rimmer and Lister is like in the first 2 series. Only now they seem more like a bunch of naughty schoolboys, because they get called into the 'headmasters' office all the time.
Anyhoo, as you might be able to tell, I love this show.
Fave episodes: Queeg, parallel universe, polymorph, Quarantaine, Krytie TV
PS: In the last episode Rimmer finally explains what that scar on his neck is. For every episode I'd been distracted by that weird thing on Chris Barrie's neck and wondering what the hell it was. I was glad that he finally pointed it out himself.
PPS: Rimmer actually looks good naked. Even in series 8, where he's like 40.

I only liked seasons 1 &2 really, watching them as a kid. The rest I find pretty overrated. That's not a comment about the general Red Dwarf fan, but more about me and how I don't really care for much of it.

krytie tv is still one of my favourite episodes. and Kill crazy in Cassandra is just bloody hilarious. i think the hardest i've laughed when watching red dwarf would've been when kill crazy smashes his head.
3rd series is my fav, prolly coz they always used to show them on tv back in the day. i would've watch each episode from that series 50 times. fav line is from The Last Day where rimmer's going on about is first french kiss. ' right awake now i couldn't believe my eyes, it was uncle frank!'
fav episodes would be quarantine (love mr flibbles!) meltdown, tikka to ride and krytie tv.
bloody hell, coz of this thread i've already watch tikka to ride, polymorph and meltdown. and now i'm watching the last day!

Oh I didn't like Tikka to Ride at all. Far too many curry jokes. We get it guys, Lister likes his curries, but don't make his life evolve around them.

Probably my fave episodes are timeslides (that's so shady), white hole because of the talkie toaster, emohawk - polymorph II, terrorform, quarantine and krytie tv. Series 1-5 are completely brilliant, series 6 and 8 were so-so for me, but 7 I could have done without.
Since I found out repeats were running I went out and rented series 1,3,4,5 and 7 and watched up to waiting for god last night, and have now a few sleepless nights ahead of me (y)

I've just been watching all the smeg ups on youtube. Ah, they're so lovely. :')
Btw, I tried to watch more of series 7, in hope there would be something good, but alas. The only brilliant part in series 7 is when Rimmer and Lister snog eachother. I screamed in disbelief when I first saw that.

guiltless kryten, opening sequence in stoke me a clipper, the rimmer experience, "LIKE I SAID SUPPER IS SERVED!" come on! ouroboros and duct are crap, same with nanarchy and whatever the other last one is, but tikka to ride, stoke me a clipper, blue and most of beyond a joke are wicked

I was a Red Dwarf obsessive in my youth, read the books, wore the t-shirt etc. I could quote every line ever.
Then I kind of faded away from it. Series 8 was complete and utter shit, so that had something to do with it.
I assumed when they came out on DVD i'd check them out again but I havn't yet. If its on telly and im flicking about I check it out, series 1-6 are still solid gold stuff.
Someday i'll revisit them all.
