i think im gonna buy one. i know, everyone hates apple. ive held something against ipods since they came out. but i've been looking for a new music player for awhile and it really seems to be the best for the money. i only worry that 8GB wont satisfy me. the whole reason im looking is cause i bought a 2 GB zen v plus last march and thats REALLY not enough. I figure 8gb should be plenty, thats like, four times as much.
my other option is a zune, but ive heard the software that comes with it is horrible.
thoughts?

quality? i don't know a single person that has owned a hard drive based ipod that has had one last over 1.5 years without them needing to send it in for repairs or just replacing it with the next generation one that as been released. this is how they make money... oh an that all apple/mac products just seem to be waaaaay overpriced.
now the flash based ones are nearly industructable. but that goes for any flash based mp3 player.
i do think they are cool as shit, though. the ipod touch is just nifty as fuck and since it's flashed based it's nearly industructable. but being flash based is it's only (huge) draw back. if they had ones with a HDD with much more storage i would be very very tempted to get one myself even though i know it would self destruct within two years. the ipods aren't based on quality but just being plain nifty and techy. and they don't have the same level of audio quality you can find from other options. but i guess audio quality doesn't make a difference if you're gonna just use the shit earbuds that come with the ipod.
most people that hate ipods seem to care more about the durability/listening to music portion of a portable audio player. not the techy nifty portion. ipods definitely lack in the audio quality and durablitity portion and excell(very greatly) in the nifty/techy/cool factor.

yeeeeeah, so i got a nano. it IS nifty as fuck. it sounds better than my zen v plus. like wow it sounds good. it may not be the best but its def. better than what im used to.
getting all of my music on this thing is gonna take quite awhile, but im very happy.
AND HOLY SHIT I CAN BUY TETRIS FOR IT FOR $5
i normally dont allow myself to spend excessive amounts of money on things but hey, whats the point of working all the time if you dont occasionally buy things you really want/enjoy. and this will make my delivery job more fun.

8 GB isnt plenty. I think I filled my 30 GB in a week.
I bought my girlfriend the new black nano and I got the new classic one. Her nano is so cute and it looks awesome when you have the coverfow (album cover pictures) scrolling along the little screen.

different strokes. i'm used to having only 2 gigs, so hopefully 4x that will be good. i know its possibly to have a shitton more. i've got it almost to 3 and i think it's gonna stay there for awhile, at least until i get time to actually start ripping CDs to my computer.
i'm sure i wont have any problem filling it up, but i'll have enough variety that it wont irritate the shit out of me.
plus i kinda got this for cheap (closer to the price of a 4gb) and i cant afford a 30 gig, thought i was looking at those too. but yeah, this should do me alright. and if i ever actually aquire 30 gigs of music, by then there will be some fancy new better digital music player and price/gb should be lower, and i can upgrade.

I was thinking of upgrading to the new classic, as I have the 2nd generation 4GB Nano currently. I've read some mixed reviews on the new classic, so please let me know if you encounter any issues with it. Thanks.

i played with a new classic last night. as far as asthetics, it's just awe awesome as the new nano... they're identical, the nano is just cuter.
the only downside i noticed to it was that... um, im not down with the ipod lingo. the circle that you spin your thumb around on isnt very responsive. i mean, i guess its plenty responsive to work, but on mine i can just barely touch it, and this you have to put a little pressure and it doesnt scroll as smoothly.
im actually pretty amazed by my navigation circle. i thought it would be confusing and take awhile to get used to, but its actually really intuitive, and i know this technology has been out for a long while now, but i never used it before, and im kinda like OH MY GOD IM NOT PUSHING IT AND IT DOES STUFF
im pretty easily entertained.

i used an ipod touch at the weekend and ive decided i want one.
I dont mind its only 8 gigs, ive mainly only ever had 2gig or 1gig ones and found it fine. i had a 20 gig one once and never got round to filling it at all.
Its the wi-fi i really want. to be able to check emails and shit round the house without firing up the laptop would be sweet.
its too expensive though.....

I originally had the 60 gig bought for me 2 years ago at xmas. but i returned it for the 30 just because I couldnt bear the thought of accidentally losing something that expensive (or stolen even)
but yeah, I wish I had kept the bigger one because 30 gigs isnt that spectacular.
I wouldnt have room to put pictures or even video on my mine even if i wanted to.
my ipod doesnt enjoy the canadian winters. keeps freezing up when its below -15 or so (har har) so Id say it will probably only last another year or so. then Ill probably spring for the 80 gig or something.
the itouch is dope, I played with my friends last week and it was radical.
but definately not enough room for tunes etc.

ive never had the particular need to have all my tunes with me at all times.
sometimes i go "damn, i wish i had so and so with me right now" but im usually home most nights so can throw it on eventually.
i usually have some eternal classics then rotate with what im currently listening too.

I gots a Toshiba Gigabeat 60GB. the OS it comes with is total shit and encodes the mp3s to some weird format so you can't give them to friends. I wiped that and put on Rockbox OS that I found online. now it rules. haven't filled it up, but I like to keep 10GB free for shifting movies, etc.

I sell iPods to people every day and I'm telling you get the Classic. The only people who buy Nanos are old people, posers, or parents with young children. It's impractical and you're paying a lot to have the privelege of a tiny thing you're probably going to lose. For like £30 ($60) more you can get 10x the storage space, although tis true you'll get the less reliable hard drive technology.
Either way I'm waiting for the 30GB Touch which should be released early next year.

i am very pleased with my 80 gig classic. although i have no movies on it yet unfortunatly. anyone have a good program for that by the way?
another thing, has anyone here used the bose head phones, and how'd you like them? the ones that go on the ears, or over them, either or.

I had a 20gb ipod a year and 10months later ruined. A blank Folder would pop on the screen. I'd charge it but it also fails. it doesn't respond wont turn on . I threw it away - had no warranty.
Got another ipod (found). The Ipod plays videos, has photos, and can download games but at some points the thing would lag, freeze, or wont respond. Most of the times it works fine but just in case I always bring a samsung mp3 because it plays radio fm which I think ipod should have. radios.
I guess the only cool thing about the ipod are the amount of memory it stores.

it bugs me that you can't sync your ipod to more than one computer
my computer crashed and so i went to put all my tunes on another computer and the only way i could do it is getting one of those hijacking programs to pull and delete all the tunes off of the thing completely and then reload them into itunes and the ipod. it took about 12 hours to go through the whole process. thankfully there was lots of football on tv while i was doing it all

i got the nano because
a) i got $50 off
b) i didnt have an extra $60 to spend
c) i dont really need that much memory
d) i dont think that a classic would fit easily in my pocket
e) d'aaaaaaaaaw

creative labs has a 32 gig flash drive player with a large color screen. it isn't a touch screen and doesn't have internet but creative's audio quaity is miles above ipods. and it also accepts little flash cards so you can expand the memory which is fucking awesome. you can find 16 gig flash cards now but they're pretty expensive. the good thing though is that you can easily expect the flash card prices to drop and the storage size to increase.

that used to happen to me and the only way i knew to do anythign was just to let the battery run out, and depending on how charged it was it could have taken hours.
but my buddy taught me this trick. next time it freezes switch the hold switch from off to on to off again. than hold the menu button and the middle button. it should just turn it off. (i think thats the combination of buttons and what not, it definatly works though) if you think about it its just like a computer, and even the best of those freeze. so ya try that out see if it helps.

the model looks like the iriver. wow memory flash and 8000 songs booyah. though watching videos on it sucks. it only would last 80minutes of playtime.

i had a creative zen v plus, and i really like the look of creative models, but they feel rather cheaply made. when id press on the buttons, the casing would like, move and creak and stuff. i never had any problems with it at all. it just didnt feel like it was meant to last.
