what are some "did you know...?" facts about movies that you found interesting/surprising/whatever?

i watched a behind-the-scenes thing on the saw movies. you know the scene in saw 2 where the girl falls into the pit of syringes? those were all real. when she was raking through them with her hands, that was her real reaction to the pain.

in "a nightmare on elm street", the only time you ever see/hear "elm street" mentioned in the movie is in the credits.

Recently heard that "Godfather 3" was more than 1/2 way filmed when Winona Ryder dropped out due to "Exhaustion" and Copola cast his daughter (Sophia) in her role.....I like to think this is part of the reason it turned out so weakly....:D

stand by me: the scene where "wagon train" is talked about is because of gordie (wil wheaton)'s grandma. wheaton's grandpa starred in "wagon train", and his grandma asked if they would mention the show in the movie!

In Bill's Murray's "Scrooged" the scene where the fairy of christmas present (Carol Kane) hit him in the face with a toaster is real. It was an accident, she was suppose miss, but she really clocked him in the face with it. ouch!

jurassic park: all of the dinosaurs were real.

seriously though-- in the movie, spielberg wanted to make the velociraptors 10 feet tall, which was taller than they actually were... BUT!! while they were filming the movie, paleontologists actually discovered a new kind of raptors that were 10 feet tall.

He also cast Sophia in Godfather 1 ( it might also be 2. I can't remember) as Mary Corleone (michael's daughter, crying baby in the baptism scene). He cast her again as Katleen turner's character's little sister, Nancy Kelcher in "Peggy Sue Got Married." He also cast her in small parts in:
the cotton club
The outsiders
Rumble Fish

with the exception of her role as a baby she has sucked in every role her dad has given her. (in my opinion). But I think she's turned into a great director.(y) oh and she did this for some band called the beastie boys:
Beastie Boys: Video Anthology (2000) (V) (producer) (segment "Ciao L.A")

The scene in the bar in "Mean Streets" when they brawl was real....Scorsese had them do it a couple of times and felt it lacked authenticity...so David Proval suggested it and everyone participated willingly....

she actually played a baby boy in the baptism scene, Michael Francis Rizzi in GF1

and "child on ship" in GF2

she was Mary Corleone in GF3

her first writing credit was in "New York Stories" , a three part film with segments directed by Martin Scorcese, Woody Allen, and Francis F Coppolla... "life without zoe" is the name of the segment and it is the worst part of the film... I cant believe Francis let his teenage daughter butcher that piece, man

oh, and the tidbit about needles in Saw 2: uh, thats not right either

It took around 120,000 syringes to complete the Syringe Pit sequence.

It took four days for four people to replace all of the needle tips with fiber tips for the Needle Pit Scene.

The original concept of the needle pit was to have Amanda neck-deep in needles, but the crew knew that it would never work.

Gelatin and a little water were added to the needle pit to make the syringes more movable and slippery.

When Danny takes out the syringes from Amanda's arm, the crew used a fake animatronic arm.

^On that note(hehehe) here is an interesting movie fact, the soundtrack for "A Knight's Tale" featured music exclusively from that time period to give the movie a more "authentic" feel.

i thought i knew alot about apocalypse now but i didn't know this

Martin Sheen was actually drunk in the scene where Willard is drunk alone in his hotel room. All of Sheen's actions in that scene were a result of his real intoxication. When Sheen punched the mirror (which was real glass), he really did cut his hand as shown in the film. While drunk, Sheen also began sobbing and tried to attack Francis Ford Coppola.

I heard he was hungover drunk for that scene. As in the aftermath of drinking waaaay to late and getting up really really early for work.

Sheen replaced Harvey Keitel.

Keitel was also replaced in Eyes Wide Shut, reportedly for ejaculating in Nicole's hair during their nude scene.

Alfred Molina was going to be Rimmer in Red Dwarf, alongside Alan Rickman as Lister. I'm so glad it didn't turn out that way.

Yeah, well.

Supposedly Nicole and Tom were willing to go with Kubrick with basically whatever he wanted to do, and that led to Nicole and Harvey actually
being nude for a scene where Harvey was supposed to be jacking off. Harvey had an erection and was actually masturbating, and that part
was agreed upon, but he wasn't supposed to have an orgasm while they filmed. After he came in her hair, Nicole and Tom refused to work
anymore unless he was fired.

So the story goes.

that's crazy. i got my info from television. they're never wrong.

i've never even seen Saw II and I could have told you that they didnt use real needles... they used real syringes, but with fake tips...

interview with Saw2 actress Shawnee Smith (http://www.radiofree.com/profiles/shawnee_smith/interview02.shtml)

Shawnee, what about the pit of needles that your character gets thrown into? How was that set up?

SHAWNEE: That was an incredibly industrious undertaking. I think there was like 100,000 needles. And there were poor, abused people in a room snapping off the real needle and then inserting the [prop needle].

But getting thrown into this pile of needles, fake or not, you could still get hurt, yes?

SHAWNEE: You know, you could have. Actually, I had a few bruises. But it was more the syringe part of it. But at the last minute, they put this goopy, slick stuff in it. Looked kind of like crystals. Visually, it worked, but also, it made it so that when I moved, they would move with me. I was hiding a three-month fetus in my belly at the time. [laughs] So I wouldn't have done anything that wasn't safe. But it was horrifying enough, right?

more Saw 2 trivia (http://www.moviemistakes.com/film5313/trivia)

The needle pit scene was done with real needles. The crew had to remove the tips and add a fibre optic tip. The pit was filled with slime to make the needles slide around more. 120,000 needles were used during this scene. This from the DVD extras.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Some of the groans made by S. William Hinzman when he's wrestling with Russell Streiner (Johnny) in the cemetery are authentic. During the struggle, Streiner accidentally kneed Hinzman in the groin

he also has a cameo in hot fuzz. he's the santa claus that stabs simon pegg in the beginning, you only see him for like 3 seconds and you never see his face, really. i was listening to the commentary, and edgar wright said that peter jackson sent him an "angry" email saying something like "was so upset at my cameo that i left and walked around for several hours before returning to the theater. excellent credits followed"

cate blanchett is also in hot fuzz; she's nick's ex-girlfriend or wife or whatever, the one in the crime scene investigation thing, wearing the mask. you only see her eyes, and it's an uncredited appearance

you know, i looked that up a while ago, and i don't think there is a single credible source behind that myth. the 2 or 3 websites you can find on the subject are these geocities kind of sites with no sources whatsoever, so i think someone was making it all up. unfortunately i told that story to someone before i checked out whether it was bullshit or not.

hey! now that i think about it, i read about it on this messageboard a couple years back! that's where i got it from : - \
