In less than one year we'll know who are new President of the United States will be. In a very galvanizing move Pat Robertson has endorsed Rudy Giuliani (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/politics/la-na-endorse8nov08,0,1001840.story?coll=la-home-center) as his pick for our 44th President.

The theme here of course is how "America's Mayor" handled 9/11, his tough stance on terrorism and some sort of cooked up economy fix. Rudy has his own moral compass that does the thinking for the woman of America, he's anti-abortion! surprise

This fellow has as good a chance as anybody else in the running to actually be our next President. What sort of info can anybody dig up on Rudy? I have my own personal feelings, I think he's a major asscrack, but maybe somebody can shed some light on Rudy to either help me out of my disdain for him or justify my low opinion.

here's a great site (http://therealrudy.org/radios), but watch this (http://therealrudy.org/blog/12023-the-real-rudy-command-center) first.

he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/05/AR2007110501595.html).

"His embrace of gun rights appears to have occurred more recently than the months after the 2001 attacks. He was quoted in 2002 and 2004 _ years later _ staunchly supporting gun control.

As mayor, Giuliani sued gun makers and distributors, backed a federal assault weapons ban and once described the NRA as extremist. As a candidate for the GOP nomination, he is struggling to square that record with his need to win over a Republican base made up of conservatives who fiercely defend and in some cases base their votes on the Second Amendment."

"Memo to Rudy Giuliani: Jokes about torture are not funny or wise, especially when one of your presidential rivals was a victim of torture himself.

The ex-mayor learned that the hard way Tuesday after an ally of John McCain - the Arizona senator tortured as a Vietnam War POW - demanded that Giuliani apologize for recent comments comparing his campaign schedule to "sleep deprivation."

"His hyperbole is an insult to all American soldiers who have had to endure real torture," said retired Marine Sgt. Maj. Paul Chevalier, chairman of McCain's New Hampshire Veterans Advisory Committee.

Giuliani earned the bitter slapdown after seeming to belittle Democrats who called sleep deprivation a form of torture.

"They talk about sleep deprivation," Giuliani told Iowa voters two weeks ago. "I mean, on that theory, I'm getting tortured running for President of the United States. That's plain silly."

Orson Swindle, a McCain friend and fellow prisoner in Vietnam, says he underwent sleep deprivation for up to 20 days, and considered that torture.

McCain had already rebuked Giuliani for expressing uncertainty about whether waterboarding - a form of simulated drowning used since the Spanish Inquisition - constituted torture."

Well would you look at that. sazi just put together a coherent, relevant, organized detraction of Rudy Giuliani's campaign - using mainstream news sources and not one word of conspiracy theory or fringe counterculture. I don't see "Illuminati" or "inside job" or "Atlantis" anywhere in his post, and yet it effectively makes its point to the reader. Amazing!

Seriously though - the thing that's always struck me as odd about Giuliani is that he's running for the highest federal office in the most extensive federal government in history, but all his political experience is municipal. He hasn't served in Congress, or the Senate, or as a governor. Being America's mayor doesn't qualify you to be America's president and it looks like he's running mostly on name recognition - and with a poorly organized campaign to boot, one with spotty success in courting both evangelical and moderate Republicans. Maybe with Robertson on board he can pick up some more momentum in the Bible Belt, but honestly who else was Robertson going to endorse? The Mormon maybe? Or how about the Hollywood actor with a trophy wife 20 years his junior?

It would be so magnificent to see an evangelical boycott of this election, I don't know how to tell you.

Catholic? And Italian? Because of that, it just doesn't seem likely that he'd have a chance at all, despite any of his policies.

what the hell are you on with the condescension? i'm not one of the 911 conspiracy people, nor have i gone guns-blazing on here screaming about the illuminati or reptilian and grey aliens.

edit: just took a brief look through the don't tase me bill thread.

my bad, you are correct.

I really haven't started paying attention to Rudy until now and this thread is the most info I've seen yet. Coincidentally, Bernard B. Kerik (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/09/giuliani-and-bush-are-featured-on-kerik-web-sites/), the former New York police commissioner appointed by Rudolph W. Giuliani while he was mayor, was indicted today on charges that include tax fraud, obstruction of justice and lying to the White House.

So timing is everything.

Here is a picture of Bush, Guiliani and Kerik (http://www.keriklegaltrust.com/donate.html) asking for cash.

The charges against him together carry a maximum penalty of 142 years in prison and $4.7 million in fines. According to sentencing guidelines, he will most likely face lesser penalties.
