Tonight Mattie and I had a bath together - which is pretty usual for us. My husband's away on business, so after we got out of the tub, I toweled her off and let her 'run free' in the bedroom while I was in the bathroom putting some moisturizer on before getting her ready for bed. Suddenly she runs in laughing, throws something in the sink, and runs out again.

Now, I didn't have my glasses on, so I didn't see at first what she had put in there.

But then, I smelled it.

Yeah, it was a poop.

Ohhhhhhh nice! :D

All the baby books say 'leave your baby's nappy off for a while so their bottom gets some air'. You must be joking. As soon as Ava's nappy comes off you can guarantee that she will pee.

18 months, in 2 days. Shocking!

The funny thing is, she must have done it squatting down right in front of her little potty. (I found a 'spot'.) We haven't used the potty as a potty yet, just have it hanging around because I got it on sale a couple months ago- she likes to drag it around the bedroom and yell at it. For some inexplicable reason. Another mum has suggested to me that I start just sitting her on it any time I'm undressing her, like in the morning before I dress her, or after undressing her for the bath, or before putting her pajamas . Not make a big issue of it, just plonk her on there whenever she's naked and if she sits there, fine, if she gets up and runs away, fine - just basically to introduce it as part of the routine. I guess it couldn't hurt.

What did parents do before there were diapers? Elimination communication! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elimination_communication) If I ever screw up bad enough to have a kid I want to try this with them.

EC'ing is a real commitment. I know 2 couples who tried it, with varying degrees of success. You have to be prepared to clean up a lot of messes, to not go out much, and to pretty much be attending to your child every second of every day. I say fair play and good luck to anyone who wants to have a go at it, but no way was it going to work for our lifestyle.

Well, given that I'm a deadbeat already, I can see myself being a pretty good stay-at-home dad. Let mom hack it in the business world and bring home the ducats. I know how to cook. (y)
