View Full Version : Ebay rant!!!

I am so stressed right now i feel like my head is going to burst.

I won and paid for a concert ticket on ebay last night. The listing on ebay said that the seller's location was Sheffield which is right by me so seeing as the gig is on Monday night i emailed the seller and asked if i could come pick the ticket up in person rather then her post it.

She replied to me this morning saying she would send it recorded delivery (that's not going to get to me on time godammit!) and that although the ticket is in sheffield at her house, she was currently in Scotland as she has been very ill. ARGH!

She said i could contact her housemate to arrange pick up if i really wanted...didn't leave a number or anything. Well, she did - there was a number next to her name at the bottom of the email but when i called it i got some foreign woman who didn't have a scooby what i was on about and could barely understand the word hello.

I've emailed back but no response so far. ARRRRGGGHHHH!!! if i don't get this ticket i could implode from the stress of it all.

i totally sympathise with ebay stress. i had a dreadful experience recently which i won't go into now (in fact, i think i told you about it when we met)... but surely recorded del will arrive to you by tomorrow?? that's the point of it, isn't it?

good luck! i hope it sorts itself out. it's a nightmare dealing with strangers like that. i haven't been back on to ebay since my beastie boys ticket fiasco, the place gives me the creeps.

Thanks Venus, I just wish she'd get back to me so i know what's happening.

I doubt recorded delivery would get to me tomorrow because, according to the post office website, recorded delivery takes 1-3 working days. It might get to me by Monday but it's a bit risky. There is Special Delivery which is guaranteed next day but if you want it delivered on a saturday it costs upwards of 9 quid. I thought it would be easiest if i just picked it up.

Allegedly not. :/

What a bummer!

Some people! tsk!

I haven't gone near E-Bay in a long time now, well 6 months at least . I was selling lots of crap and the people who were buting were complaining that it hadn't been delivered yet but it eventually did but the post was fucking slow.too much hassle

I've actually had pretty good eBay karma lately, both with buying and selling. I just bought some boots the other day, and a rocking/riding horse thingie for Mattie last night, and I'm selling a bunch of shoes (cuz me feets got bigger when I was preggo, what joy!) at the moment.

ps anyone want to buy some shoes?

best place online to buy tickets to an event is stubhub since they will guarantee that your ticket is valid, so you can't get screwed over

but if they are sent today then you should catch them in the mail monday in time for the show!

special delivery (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump1?catId=400023&mediaId=400028&keyname=ssm) next day is £4.50.
sorry, such a nerd.
if the sale goes thru 1 working day b4 the gig, she shouldn't send it recorded!

what a pain. i hope it sorts itself out. so confusing! the ticket is at her house in sheffield, but she's in scotland? what a muppet.

neutral feedback at the best!

What kind of feedback rating does she have?

Yeah, but... E-bay in general ain't like it used to be. It's too bad.

I go past headquarters every weekend. Maybe I could egg them for you, and they could pass it along to Little Miss Scotland.

It's ok! The potential disaster has been averted!

She finally replied to my email...sent me her correct telephone number and we arranged for me to pick the ticket up from her housemate in Sheffield on Sunday.

She seemed like a very nice person on the phone too. Naughty me for thinking anything otherwise...

:D *phew*

Well, when you're left hanging, it's hard sometimes not to imagine the worst.

Glad that things worked out! (y)

Most of the "OMG EBAY IS EVIL" stories involve concert tics not getting delivered in time for the concert.

Ebay seems OK for everything other than that though (knocks on wood).

....drives me nuts when there's communication back and forth, payment is made, and then... silence.

Excuse me? Has it been shipped yet? Hello? Hello?

Day three:

Hello? Hello?

what kind of junk are you buying now?

i havent used ebay in ages. usually when i get stuff online anymore, its amazon.com or something direct from the company. when i go on ebay, i usually just surf around to maybe catch a good deal on some old lot of records or baseball cards.

abcdefz
01-09-2008, 11:45 AM
Yeah -- I don't do much there any more. But now and again there is an actual deal.

Replacement blades for my razor are way the fuck cheaper on Ebay than in the store. Comes out to about a buck apiece instead of $3-4 each.

I go through blades pretty fast.

You shave the top of your head yourself as well? ;)

I won some La Mosca magazines from Mexico (w Clash, Radiohead, Bowie, Cure), some a very good deal. The seller says he's sent them to me,
twice, that the first time they had been returned cause I hadn't been at home. Wonder what he sent them with cause here the mail
leaves a note for all bigger letters and packages to be collected from the office as the mailmen don't carry them around.
This was, like over two months ago. Then he claims he sent them again six-seven weeks ago, and I still haven't received them.
He's responses have been very polite and he's promised to send me a full refund, but five days later I still haven't received it.
He seems quite honest and I do belivie I might get my money back some day, but what bugs me more I've been looking for
those issues for ages and been bidding on them, and now I found them all from one seller and for a really good price
(especially now the dollar's really low) and now I have to start looking for them again...:(

Otherwise the only bad experience was some Russian, sent me a faulty Beastie Boys bootleg and wouldn't even answer mails
and then gave me negative respons, bastard! He ain't a seller anymore.

Almost every fucking day.

Probably.... probably 350 days a year. It gets kinda old.

i'm pissed. i paid for an original paul's boutique mint condition LP almost a month ago and i still haven't received it, nor have i heard from the seller.

That actually made me blush.

But, you know -- it's the best haircut for me, really. When my hair grows out, it's uncontrolable.

Did you do the follow-up complaints? That ain't right.

I won't do any transactions if the seller won't provide a tracking number. And I don't sell unless the buyer pays for tracking (or priority mail). Buyers and sellers don't know each other, whatever the feedback rating says, and there's no way I'm going to hear "lost in the mail."

Heh. This is a blast from the past thread. All was well that ended well though.
I've not had any problems since, i've just sold some stuff and all the buyers paid straight away - except one who owes £18. I set a limit of 7 days before i get narky with them. She's got 3 days left....

abcdefz

My side of the transactions, man, I am always on it. I want to pay right away, I want to ship right away. I wish I could
expect the same.
Instant gratification takes too long.

if they don't pay in 7 days, i'd re-list the sucker!

i mean, i guess unless they are sending a check, it should be pretty much an instant payment. and if they are posting the funds, they should tell you when they mail it out right away

I only accept paypal - i can't doing with faffing about going to the bank to pay in small cheques.

abcdefz
01-09-2008, 02:51 PM
Yeah, I don't take personal checks, either.

Money orders are okay, but I've never had anyone send me a money order.

Remember when PayPal started? "No fees, forever"?

Yeah, right.

Yorkshire~Rose
01-09-2008, 02:56 PM
Yeah, the fees are a pain - i am sure they never used to charge for sending money to another person's bank account (just a money transaction, no ebay involved) but i did that recently and got charged about £12 (n)

abcdefz
01-09-2008, 03:00 PM
Yeah -- it was free before Ebay bought them.

Did you know you're not supposed to use PayPal if you're buying porn on Ebay? It's an Ebay rule. If you were buying porn from
Craigslist or something, you can use PayPal.

Now -- what the fuck is that about? If Ebay has something against porn, why do they allow porn auctions? And, since
Ebay owns PayPal, it would seem like their rules should be the same, shouldn't it?

But supposedly you can get booted. That just seems weird to me.

jabumbo
01-09-2008, 03:01 PM
so wait, you get charged for using paypal nowadays?

i havent used it in a while i guess, but i dont recall ever having to pay anything on my transactions

but geez, if they don't pay on paypal right away, what's their deal?

abcdefz
01-09-2008, 03:03 PM
You get charged for receiving money; I don't think you get charged for paying.

And, yeah -- why would you not pay right away? Makes no sense to me unless your computer goes down or something.

I didn't know that either! i haven't bought or sold anything for ages, until these mags, which I'm expecting to get money back, and just this morning when I paid for my flickr account...
