View Full Version : Food that's more trouble than it's worth

Spare ribs
Chicken wings

...I mean, seriously: the effort-to-meat ratio is pretty lopsided. Too much work.

Oranges

...pretty messy, though once you get 'em all peeled you're good to go, and they are awfully tasty.

Raw coconut is kind of a pain in the ass, too.

Thoughts?

Any casserole or loaf is too much for me. Screw it. Unless it's a potluck that stuff doesn't get made.

I thought about that, but I do love corn on the cob so much, even if silk does get stuck in my teeth.

Corn cobs microwave just fine, too. (y)

I'll give you this: yellow corn on the cob: more trouble than it's worth.

White corn on the cob ftw. (y)

I.V. drips. I.V. drips are... it's just too much effort, man.

Sausages are ALMOST too much effort. All that mess, and checking the grill all the time. But they are darn good. To minimise the long term effort, I just cook a pack at a time.

I imagine lobster and crab being difficult but I 've heard it's worth it though.

Pomegranate, now thats messy.

I would say she is an honorary english person. :D

I agree about oranges. I rarely eat them because i can't be doing with the potential juice in the eye situation/messy hands/getting the itty bits of pith off.

Perhaps i'll get scurvy. :(

I think that's kind of a case by case basis. Sometimes it does seem tedious, yeah, but it's really good stuff.

corn on the cob takes like 3 minutes in the microwave, and you can eat it by just motoring around the thing, its not that hard...

and chicken wings done right are well a pain, especially when you are busting apart whole wings. but if you have them already pieced, sticking them in the fryer and coating them in some sauce really isnt all that hard when you think about it. but then again, most people don't have a deep fryer so thats why you go to the bar and get em for a quarter

grapefruit

becausee you have to peel it AND get the flesh out of the membrane so that its not all bitter

it takes me like 15 minutes to eat one.

I've never liked grapefruit, and now I have even more reasons why.

Some stuff like sloppy joes are so fucking messy. Carl's Jr. has this one chicken sandwich that's almost impossible, because it's got melted
cheese on top and a greasy green pepper on bottom, and the sandwich slides apart every time you try to take a bite...

MC Moot
11-13-2007, 02:36 PM
ah hah!...that brings me to the "open faced" sandwhich those damned scandanavians are such big proponents of....it's not a sandwhich when it involves 1 piece of bread with toppings on it but no topping....they have at it with knife and fork....pickled herring madmen/women....

Chicken wings

How funny.

I went to get some water from the cooler and smelled that smell from our conference room -- couple of the guys got wings.

These one spicy wings ("atomic," they're called) have this really foul odor that burns my nostrils. Ugh.

ScarySquirrel
11-13-2007, 03:08 PM
You just gotta order the boneless wings. But, then I guess they really just become chicken nuggets that are drenched in the sauce of your choosing.

That's how I roll though. Unless I'm at Ponderosa... then I can dig on their wings even though they don't have any sauce on 'em.

Hey, wait a minute, I haven't seen any Ponderosa restaurants since I've been out here. Do we have those in California? I think I need to do some internet research.

I just would like to add this about chicken wings....recently they have been kinda turning me off...as a dedicated carnivore I rarely have issue with eating off the bone....but chicken wings are starting to turn me off....I just get the drums when I order now but I think it won't be long before I pack in wing night all together and stick to the breast....just chicken though still mad about ribs....

this one is ALMOST more trouble than it's worth....

Polenta.

especially since I don't have a double broiler which means I have to stand there and stir it for 25 minutes straight. and when it gets too hot it starts bubbling up...bits of piping hot polenta fly up on to your hands and burn the crap out of them until you turn it down and get things under control.

but when it's all said and done that creamy corn goodness is pretty damn worth it.(y) it's just the process that makes you think twice.

pretty much anything that has to be prepared and cooked. i'm not so good with that. don't have patience. i like things that are ready to eat out of the packet.

abcdefz
11-14-2007, 09:20 AM
chicken wings and ribs you just marinade for a few hours or overnight then either deep fry, grill or oven bake. that's not hard to do and the result is well worth it.

I meant more trouble to eat than it's worth, actually. It's messy and time consuming to strip meat off the bones compared to just biting into a chicken breast, ya know?

Especially wings. Yeesh -- what a hassle for so little meat.

Grapes!

I was given a handfull of grapes today (great big motherf****rs)!
I've been used to seedless grapes for so long that these were a real pain in the arse to eat!

Also, they made me fart . . . alot!:o
