Today, I started my new job as a producer/director. Actually, I sat through an orientation. I work for a county government so firemen, policemen, custodial workers, financiers, cafeteria workers, etc are in the class. I had a guy at my table that took the cake. He was ignorant with a capital I. His new job is dragging sports fields and cutting grass. He did not know how to fill out any of the forms but the topper came after we watched a film on workplace diversity and sexual harassment. The instructor was asking questions like out of 100 people how many on average would be men and how many would be women. The answer was 51 women and 49 men. Then she asked how many heterosexuals and how many homosexuals on average out of 100 people. The guy blurted out---I hope I don't work with any homosexuals I don't like that! Everyone was quiet and I said--I guess someone needs to watch the film again. Everyone laughed. Then he said--I don't like gays. The instructor just stared blankly at the guy.

You gotta love people. My 1st day with real people starts tomorrow.

You mean you don't count Inbred Jed as a real person?

Work does indeed suck my friend. Hope everything else in life is going well. (y)

I will produce 30 to 45 minute short form programming. I call them mini-docs. My 1st assignment is foster parenting. I will follow some foster parents and kids to personalize the subject. They allow freedom when telling the stories so I try to find subjects to focus on in the pieces. I used to work for the station about 4 years ago. It is a good job. I have my own soundproof Avid editing suite, camera and other equipment. They give me about 2 and a 1/2 months to produce the programs. When I worked at the station last go round I did a 35 minute doc on the Drug Court program titled Tranforming Lives. I followed 3 participants around documenting them with their families, at work, at church, bowling, whatever they were doing. One night a guy I was featuring took me to the corner where he used to sell drugs. I filmed him walking and talking about how his life was out of control. I did another on a prison program and I spent 2 nights in jail filming. Two guys created a rap and I started the program with their rhymes and a montage of barbed wire, jail doors slamming, etc. My boss entered my Transforming Lives piece in some contests. I got an Emmy nomination, an International Worldfest platinum award and a Telly. I enjoy the idea of finding ways to bring stories to life and make them interesting.

Knuckles....I see your point about work but I do enjoy creating programs. It can become a grind at times but it is a good creative outlet and the money is good.

The guy was a real doosey. The orientation instructor was talking about customer service and asked if anyone had any stories about bad service. The guy said---I ordered a Big Mac and fries at McDonalds and they gave me 2 double cheeseburgers. I said---was it at the drive thru? They always mess up at the drive thru. I wanted to do my Joe Pesci and say--they always fuck you at the drive thru but had to bite my tongue. He made my day with all his idiotic comments. He will probably be good at hauling garbage and dragging baseball fields.

Fuckin wow. You have my dream job. I run a little production company and we make video clips other stuff like that. We are working on a feature length live concert dvd right now. I don't really know what I'm doing but it seems to be working out so far. Making no money tho. Have no equipment. Have to beg, borrow and steal to get things done.

Apparently we are starting to make commericals now. I've just been told. I don't know what the hell I'm doing as far as making commercials but I'll just pretend like I do.
