Ugh. $123 down the drain.

I ran a red light on my bike. :)

Whether in a car or on my bike, police usually just let me go for whatever reason. I guess because I'm respectful. Not this time, though he
treated it as a pedestrian infraction and could've actually treated it as a moving vehicle at about three times the fine.

What was your last traffic ticket? I think this is my second in my life.

If he had written it up as a moving vehicle instead of a pedestrian infraction, yeah, it would've gone against my license.

Whew.

i have two speeding tickets that i've gotten in my time

the first was back in may when the speed limit dropped from 55 to 25 in this little town. i was going about 65 heading into the change, and didnt notice it till late, and only got to about 25 before the sneaky bugger stopped me. he had white lights on his car too, so i had no idea what was going at first. i thought it was some guy just being annoying with bright lights behind me.

the second was while driving down to florida and it was 1:30 in the morning (we left at 3pm) and i was just humming down I-95 around all these trucks to try and make some good time and i got nabbed in the middle of south carolina.

in the end i ended up with about $200 in fines and 6 points between PA and SC.

does anyone know when the points start evaporating from your record?

It probably depends on the state you're living in. Maybe check with your insurance carrier.

I got a speeding ticket once in my life while I lived in Arlington. I was tired, kind of forgot it was 55 there, not 65. And over here I get away with doing 75 and sometimes 80 on a regular basis.

oops.

First time I got pulled over was when I was 17.

I rolled down the window and said, "Officer, can we make this quick? My sister's in the hospital having a baby."

He checked on it and found it was true and let me go.

Fortunately for me, she had indeed just checked in, but she still had a long way to go, I found out later: I was on my way to my buddy's
college for a weekend of partying. :D

Oooh lucky! :D

I have had two tickets:

The first was in '97 and i got flashed by a speed camera where the speed limit changed from 70 to 40...i was going 55mph. The flash didn't really register with me. I thought it was lightening or a firework or something (it was at night) :o. I got a bit of a shock when the letter landed on my doormat. Boom. 3 points and £40 fine.

The second time was in '98 when i lived in the US. I was tootling down the highway when i overtook this car which in my opinion was going far too slow. I didn't see the police car behing me and 'wooooooo', i got pulled over. 72mph on a 60 limit (i think...it could have been 55....!). No points this time as they can't put points on foreign licences. I tried to talk my way out of it but my British accent/charm (ahem) didn't do me any good and i got a $90 fine.

Since then, i've been as good as gold. Or lucky, one of the two. :D

Oh!....I have a good one....many years ago I made a left turn on a one way street and was snagged by a couple of coppers in a van, they pulled me over into a gas station parking lot...I was young and full of piss and vinegar so i copped attitude with the officer, like give me the ticket you stupid civil servant so I can be on my way....so,I handed over my liscense and insurance and the officer went back to the van....a LONG period of time goes by and i look in my rear view mirror and both cops are sitting there laughing.....then BOTH cops get out each approaching me on different sides of my car....lead cop leans in my window and say's "Mr Aparicio you made 2 critical errors today do you know what they are?"...I'm still all attituded up and I say "yeah I went the wrong way on a one way big fuck'n deal"....cop says "yes that was your first mistake and the second mistake you made was (holding my liscense up to me) handing your drivers over to a police officer with a piece of hash stuck to the back"...he flips my liscense around and pancaked to it is a gram size chunk of black flattened out that I had stuck there weeks ago.....fuuuuuckkkkkk me!......:D

how fast do you have to go before you get sent to jail?

I don't think that speeding in and of itself would land anyone in jail. You'd have to be doing something reckless (in addition to speeding) or be intoxicated or something.

I got a ticket for going 93 in a 70 once. I deserved it, but I was almost at my exit so I just got anxious.

I always wanted to pull the pinkeye gimmick. I read about it on SA, but you rub your eyes a lot as the cop is walking up to your car, then you ask if he has hand sanitizer in his patrol car because you have pinkeye and you'd hate for him to get it. People have gotten off for that.

The last one I got was a negligent driving ticket when I had my accident earlier in the year, a $500 fine. No points though. And that was only because I went through a farmer's barbwire fence. If I hadn't have done that I wouldn't have got it. The cops didn't even do a breath test or nothing on me, something I thought would have been standard procedure at an accident.

The only other ticket i got was when I got busted driving in the bus lane on the way to work 7-8 years ago, that was worth $110 and two points
