people asking for advice on what to do doesn't really bother me.

But for some reason lately, people have been asking what to do (after explaining the situation) and I am honestly not sure what I would do about it myself. Then they get frustrated with me, and keep saying "No tell me what to do come oooon" and continue to get upset because I don't have an answer for them. And I'm not even directly involved!

Does anyone else ever run in to this?

Maybe it's just certain types of personalities that wig when you don't have an answer for them. One response I gave to the 'wig out' moment was: "Gee whiz, man. You're asking a girl who got laid off, kicked out of her house for no good reason, is living on a couch right now, has no where to go for thanksgiving, birthday is the day after, and she has literally 5 dollars to her name. What the hell are you asking me for anyway?"

They shut up after that.

...don't you think people usually just want to unload, not necessarily get advice or get the problem fixed?

nah, chicks ask to have their problems solved for them all the time. Some guys I know do that too, but most of them are not straight.

BA01, you live on a couch? what?

Yeah, but in my experience, they just want to talk more than they want a situation actually fixed.

One of the eternal men vs. women loggerheads. :D

I don't mind when people ask "what do i do?". but it does bother me when people ask for advice and you give it to them and they ignore it and put themselves in a shitty situation that they could have avoided if they had listened to the advice given to them.

and what makes it worse is when it happens to the same person over and over again.

I hate to admit it...but when it comes to my job situation I think I am this person.:o it sucks. I get frusterated with myself even. I'm not really sure what's wrong with me.

well yes. but I was asking why is it they get upset when I don't have an answer for them? and even if they WERE just trying to unload WHY was I getting badgered because I didn't have the answer FOR them... is my issue. As if they thought I should know. But it's their life so I am like uhhh, sorry I didn't know I was supposed to have the road map for your life on what to do.
