towards my mom, she'd tell me to quit being a brat so, I realized that being a brat wasn't so cool.

Oh god, I saw a TV-show of this recently, only it wasn't normal Bratz, it was baby-bratz. So there wer like little kids, in diapers, being total bitches and complaining about their hair and their nailpolish. And about cute boys at daycare.

I didn't get into the metal scene till I was 18 and out of the house but, believe me, I'm sure there's a huge group of middle aged everything else heads that really appreciate them.

There was at some point a group that protested against them - mothers, or concerned parents or something - but they were squashed by someone. I don't know who. I think someone came out and said it was ridiculous to think that these dolls were resposible for the early sexualization of young girls...I think they're an excellent example though.

My cousin, who's about 12, loves them. My boyfriend's step sister who's 8 has heaps of them, as well as games, CDs, DVDs and other random toy things. I think it's weird their parents let them play with shit like that, I'd never allow them in my house.

Girls are really lacking good rolemodels and stuff these days.

You know, the nature v nurture thing takes on a whole new dimension once you have a kid, let me tell you. I'm not all about giving Mattie a bunch of froo-froo frilly pinky girly stuff, but the toys she loves best are her babies. When she was about 11 months old, she spotted a baby doll when we were in the poundshop, and started pointing at it and babbling madly. So I bought it, why not, it was a quid. Now she has 4 baby dolls and she adores them - feeds them (often her own food, which can get a bit messy...), spreads a blanket out on the floor then lays them all down neatly and pats them and tells them to go to sleep, puts their hats on, takes thier hats off, makes them pretend to talk to eachother, brigs them to mr.p and I to give them kisses and cuddles, takes them for walks in the park in their own little buggy. They tell me at her nursery that she and another little girl do the same things all the time with the dolls they have their - it's like they are running their own little dolly-nursery. I sure haven't 'trained' her to do any of that, other than by her own observation of me or her other carers doing those things.


About the bratz dolls - yes they are vile indeed, but I don't know that 'forbidding' them does a whole lot of good. (Because kids never want the things they can't have, right?) By getting too upset by them, I think that gives away too much power.
