View Full Version : I didn't think that Outkast was capable of making music I liked anymore...

...but I just listened to this snippet 5 times in a row:

Art of Storytelling Pt 4 (http://www.spinemagazine.com/music/november/outkast/aos4_snippet.mp3)

I guess I like it.

Yeah, other than a few tracks Idlewild sucked. But still, 'Kast is way above most of the shite out there today...

No, see, I haven't fully enjoyed one of their albums since Aquemini. There's been a few decent tunes sprinkled around here and there, sure...but I'm saying that this song seems indicative of a very slight possibility that the next album will indeed be somewhat listen-worthy and possibly not even suck.

I'm just the opposite...I really started enjoying their work with Aquemini. Their first two albums are classic...good stuff. But Aquemini, Stankonia, and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below were just excellent. Idlewild was promising for the first few tracks...then after "Hollywood Divorce" it just turns into a bloated mess.

That's like saying, "Yeah, I didn't really like Ice Cube until he started falling off". I'll take "classic" over "excellent" anyday.

I guess this is just off that Drama album, anyway:

Aquemini is pretty much perfect.

I think they tend to suffer from the same ailment as Radiohead. When they do decide to stop trying really really hard to be really really different, they can do some pretty great things.

Aquemini is pretty much perfect.

I liked everything on it except for Mamacita :(

Outkast really need to hook up with Organized Noize again and start producing tracks as Earthtone III more often.

And actually perform on songs together, maybe?

i absolutely adored outkast, but i have never seen a group fall off so bad in my entire life. it's gotten to the point that i'm embarassed if i'm caught listening to any of they're albums. idlewilde ruined them when they were already on weak footing. that snippet was alright, nothing great. but alright.

in MY OPINION:

Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik ****
ATLiens ****1/2
Aquemini *****
Stankonia ****1/2
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below ***1/2 (being generous; i absolutely jocked TLB for years, but honestly, a handful of tracks are 5 star ones, and the rest are 2 to 3 stars. and it's way too long)
Idlewild *

"Idlewild" was pretty much forgettable, but methinks you guys are being too harsh on Outkast on their '00s output.

With Aquemini, they fell on. But that's just my opinion...I don't really base my musical taste on whether the general public thinks an artist "fell off".
