I'm getting sick of working with idiot managers who don't have a clue about graphics design, idiot clients who think I press a few buttons and voila the computer does it all for me, idiot colleagues who know nothing and I find myself showing them how to do they're job, idiot people in marketing/buying who think that they are designers and know better.

I'm sick of the design industry but don't want to waste all the time and effort I put into my degree and work in another sector.

I'm really thinking of becoming a teacher and doing my pgce...but it's such a scary prosepct :confused::confused::confused:

Sounds like a plan. (y)

Perhaps you could try teaching evening courses first...dip your toe in...see if you like the whole teaching thing.

I used to temp at an agency that dealt with part time college/evening class lecturers and the majority of people on their books didn't have any teaching experience/teaching qualifications just experience and expertise in that particular field.

I've got a few years voluntary work with kids under my belt. Art classes with under privilaged kids and another class with children with learning disabilties. I really to teach and nurture (y)

Well if you are financially able to quit work and do the years course i would go for it. You do get a grant i think...

What age range would you want to teach?

I decided last week that I want to become a middle school (grades 6-8) science teacher.

I figure I will finish school, work for 5-10 years, then go teach. Thats the plan anyways.

I'm just worried about the money. I always hear that teachers make shit for salary, and that kinda scares me.

maybe secondary, you get £1000 per month for nine months training which isn't too bad.

I should be able to do that

Both my parents are teachers.
By living with them it became very clear that I never want to be a teacher.

£1000 a month is lame pay for someone your age, and even at the top level teacher's salaries are just terrible.

"Those who can't, teach". You could do much better man.

It's a grand a month for the training paddy, after that the salary is ok, not as much as what i'm on know but I think i'd enjoy it more.

My nan used to say that saying to me after a teacher at school started giving me shit.

i would love to be a teacher. something like elementary/middle school science. i'd say the sallary isn't too bad considering you don't work for 3 months out of the year

i could only do it if it were a subject like that though. i dont really feel that i know enough about any one particular thing to make it my lifes work to teach it to kids. i would get bored with it after a couple years

Teaching isn't for everybody, but it can be really great. Personally I am glad I am not a classroom teacher (too much administrative interference), but I love working in education and I love working with challenging kids. When you are working with a young person and you seem them have their 'lightbulb' moment, where suddenly they get it - it's a really brilliant feeling.

A bit of a cliche too but you never forget a great teacher (Mr Braithwaite, wherever you are (y))

And you never forget a shite teacher either.

A great teacher is one of the greatest gifts in the world.

A bad teacher, you can overcome that, but I remember the first bad teacher I had just broke my heart.
