i don't own a 360, and until now I haven't really wanted one, but what little i've read about this game is seriously making me consider buying one (or at least requesting one for christmas). i loved knights of the old republic, and this game is made by the same company and it looks, i dunno, like a bazillion times cooler, because you get your own space ship and there's real-time squad-based combat and stuff.

anyone own it? anyone have any opinions about it? it's tempting me, it's really tempting me

From what I've heard, it's an incredible game. I still have it on order, so it should be shipping to me soon, but once I get it, I'll be popping it in immediately. I say buy a 360 just for Mass Effect.

I got this Friday but it's not really my thing I'm afraid. Some of the graphics are a bit glitchy.

It's very similar to Kotor in how it plays, just no Star Wars obviously.

If you like this sort of thing you'll probably love it - lots of my friends are. I dunno if I'd say "go buy a 360" for it though.

how can this game not be awesome? especially considering you like that star wars knight of the republic game. i liked that one a lot too, so i'm pretty stoked for it.

How about the combat? does that work like in kotor too, where it's a sort of combined real-time/turn-based thing, where you queue up orders, or is it more like a FPS game? i watched some videos, but it wasn't quite clear.

what about space? i know you have a ship, do you get to fly it at all, or is it more like kotor where you can just sort of walk around on the ship and click on a destination and it automatically takes you there and you occasionally play a stupid minigame?

i dunno, this game just seems like it would be really cool. i'm not a sci-fi geek by any means, but i do like the genre a little bit, and it seems like this game would be right up my alley. sort of a firefly/star trek thing; cruising around the galaxy, swearing at people, teaching alien women to looooove, maybe delivering a package or two

It got (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3164453) a 9.0 at 1UP. That's saying something. It's a highly ambitious game. We'll see. Still waiting on it to ship.

Thats interesting cosmo. I want to go back to school to learn forensic science. Only problem is I suck at chemistry. And math. Oh well.
I have been putting off getting a 360 for some time. Grand theft auto is worth the wait.

oh yeah i forgot about gta4...FUCK

i don't think i have the money for this shit. it's like what, the console's $350, and games are $60 each...i want like 4 or 5 that i can name right now, that's like $650, $700 if i sign up for xbox live for the year, too. i'm living on student loans, this is not a good idea. i mean, i HAVE the money, but i really shouldn't be spending it on this crap

WHY DID VIDEO GAMES HAVE TO GET SO DAMN COOL ALL OF A SUDDEN? i was doing so well about not being tempted until this stupid game came out, now i want to get back into it

i need a girlfriend or something, yeesh

It's not like KotOR in this respect. It plays a bit like a third person shooter but there's "RPG stat stuff" going on in the background. And you have a party and stuff. It's not turned based though it's "real time" combat. Sadly, and remember this is coming from someone whose taste in games means I'd probably like this less anyway - compared to the other recent 360 'shooty' games I played (CoD4, Halo 3 and Orange Box) it pales into insignificance. It's not meant to be a shooter though - it's all about the story and that does seem deep and of quality. And you get to have lesbian alien sex if you want - surely thats good?

what about space? i know you have a ship, do you get to fly it at all, or is it more like kotor where you can just sort of walk around on the ship and click on a destination and it automatically takes you there and you occasionally play a stupid minigame?

You are based in a ctidel to start and you can grind away and level up there quite happily for hours and hours before you get your ship - when you get it you do actually fly your ship and land on various charted and uncharted planets and do research/get into fights. It's not mini games it's very well done.

You kinda act all "Kirk" while your minions pilot the ship and tell you stuff. The pilot at the start is fucking annoying though.

All in all it's safe to say if you liked KotOR you will really dig this. It's shinier, there's more too it and it's more fun to play.

Probably just been unlucky as since I got my 360 a couple of months back I've stocked up on all the good back catalogue cheaply so I have a stack of great games to play and not enough time to devote to something like Mass Effect. That's the one thing I would say that makes sense about a 360 purchase right now. Not only has the last 2-3 months seen 5 or 6 killer games for it you can stock up on all the previous "killer games" extremely cheap.

thanks for the info...when you say you can actually fly your ship and land on planets and stuff though, do you mean that literally, like you actually have controls to fly your ship; like "press x to accelerate, left stick controls pitch", etc., etc., or do you just select destinations from a menu or something?

i've read a bunch of reviews but they all kind of gloss over the space aspect. I JUST WANT A DAMN SPACESHIP IS THAT SO WRONG :(

anyway i'm basically caving into my id tonight and ordering a 360, i can't stop thinking about it now. it's inevitable :(

yep, i just bought one. i'm going to be in debt forever!

It's a good purchase to make.

Yeah, the politing the ship - while not just "press X to go to planet" isnt all that deep. It's not like you properly control it or anything. Not that it spoilts the game, there's so much going on in it.

i'm the same way. i really want to buy one just for this game. but then i'd have to get halo 3. and then live. and then gta4

i'm really telling myself i can't get it because otherwise i'll play it everyday and never do school work.

I might get this game. I was gonna go for COD4 but don't want to be trapped on LIVE during summer classes.

Pretty good? I never played KOTR but I want a great RPG, which is what they're calling this.

Bob

i guess it kind of is an rpg, yeah. there's equipment, and upgrades, and skill points, but it's very very friendly to people who aren't very good at rpg's (like me). you have the option of letting the AI completely handle your teammates (levelling them up, using their skills, etc). there's a lot of room for customization and stuff but not so much that it's overwhelming.

the gameplay is not very rpg-like at all, in my opinion. it's kind of stats-dependent third-person shooter. you aim your weapon, you pull the trigger to fire, you use your skills and wait for them to cool down before using them again, it's not like it's final fantasy or anything. i'd compare it to kotor, but you never played that so i guess it wouldn't help.

anyway i wouldn't call it a great rpg, i'd just call it an amazing damn game, i'm glad i finally bought a 360 so i could play this
