those are both good songs. you are mistaken to call them bad at all. ive finally got to this point, you need to look at this in the 2007 context. compaired to all other stuff in 07 this cd is up at the top. it took me a few spins to really get into it. but the beats are good because they are different. nothing like a club beat whatsoever on there.

id like to do a song by song eventually but for now ill say i only really disliked one song. sunlight; it sounds like a birth of a prince reject. only rza on it, with that slow ass rapping style over a not so good beat. other than that there were maybe 1 or 2 there were meh. but honestly other than that i liked the whole thing. like i said before a lot of different beats. a couple songs i really really liked.

overall i give it between a 8.5 and a 8.7 (not an 8.6, just either or, it goes back and forth) out of 10.

^1) you're mistaken to call anyone's personal opinion "mistaken."

2) the "i instantly think it's good because it doesn't sound like everything on the radio these days" argument has always been complete bullshit in my opinion. plenty of hip hop in 07 completely shits on "watch your mouth." in my opinion, it is a terrible, sluggish, yawn-inducing turd of a song. completely uninspired. giving "the heart gently weeps" a second time, well, i do think i was a bit harsh. it's by no means a great song but it's not bad.

as for the rest of the album, it was actually pretty good. i didn't care for tracks like "starter" (amazon.com has an only vaguely-similar tracklisting to the one i downloaded, so who knows if i heard the real deal) but there were a good amount of decent, or even great material. 'Wolves,' 'sunlight,' 'and take it back' are all worth the wait, in my opinion, with stuff like 'campfire' and 'stick me for my riches' being really good in their own right. some of the tracks ('weak spot,' 'tar pit' etc) kind of just disappear the second you're done listening to them. or, you even kind of just ignore them while they're playing. another complaint is that alot of the production still is kind of plodding and uninteresting, and considering that few of the members of the wu tang clan are still in good form (lyrically) a good amount of the songs ended up having me look at my watch or wondering about what time i should go do my grocery shopping tomorrow or thinking "i wonder what _______ is doing tonight." say what you want about the W, about the beats or whatever. at least it was well paced and seemed to move by briskly (well, besides "let my n*ggaz live"). that, and the clan members still sounded hungry as fuck on that album, especially ghostface and the rza.

36 Chambers- *****
Wu Tang Forever- ****1/2
The W- ****1/2
Iron Flag- **1/2
8 Diagrams- ***1/2

compaired to all other stuff in 07

seriously though, it doesn't matter what year it's recorded. if it sounds good, it sounds good. if it doesn't, it doesn't. comparing it to its contemporaries doesn't make it better.

errbody should have been happy to hear it open with a song like campfire though. unpredictable is hot too.

Shit is aight, need a few more spins before I know what's really good though. ;) (http://rapidshare.com/files/71901906/WTC8DR07MOD.tar)

Y'all heard Ghost's album yet? It's more instantly likeable than 8D.

i agree, but i dont know if thats a good thing.

its more of the same, and the same has been pretty decent for ghost. but 8D is trying to do something different.

Big Doe Rehab is the least I've enjoyed a Ghost album upon first listens. I'm enjoying 8 Diagrams much more, but as usual I'll probably be in the minority on this.

im going to ammend my comment. upon getting the ghost and listening to it on good speakers instead of edited version on crappy computer ones. my opinion of 8D stays the same. still better, very innovative, almost the 2007/8 version of pauls botique. but the big doe rehab i think is ghosts third best effort now. between ironman and SC.

giving it a couple of days to sink in, i have to take that half a star off. i think it was just the excitement of hearing a wu tang album again, because after that wore off, it's pretty much a snoozer of an album. not a bad album in my opinion, like ghost or rae think, but not a very good one. listening to it a couple more times, the only track that really vibes is 'take it back.'

of course this all kind of makes me look a little like an ass, since i fellated tracks like 'sunlight' further up the page, but standing back and looking at it without drunk-with-excitement goggles, i really have to reiterate that different doesn't always equal good. sunlight (yeah, yeah, i know) and rushing elephants really prove this. i held off judgement with 'rushing elephants' for awhile, and yeah. a pretty bad call on rza's part, along with most of the boring-ass or just bad sounding beats. still like specific songs on the album, but i only really love 'take it back.' Iron Flag, while a much, MUCH worse album, had 2 tracks on it that i loved. again, it all boils down to personal taste, but i'll bet any of you anything that no one will remember this album or any songs on it 10 years from now.

Maybe, Auton. I hear what you're saying, but I don't know that many modern albums will have lasting impact. I don't think music can really do that anymore. I doubt Big Doe Rehab will, either. It's just More 'More Fish'.

One thing I found odd was that on the O.D.B. tribute "Life Changes," Ghostface doesn't appear on it. The other seven members appear and drop 8 bars in honor of Dirty, but Ghost has no verse, and if I remember correctly, only appears on four tracks.

And I still have no idea what the hell RZA is rapping about 65% of the time.

Strongly disagree. I feel this ablum is a lot like pauls botique. A lot of people wont catch up with it until years down the road.

theres nothing groundbreaking or particularly interesting about this album. Its about as mediocre as possible. Past Forever though, Wu Tang has made a lot of sub-standard shit so I wasnt really holding out for anything super amazing.

The W sucks, for the record.

Question for anyone thats heard Gun will Go. The chorus the woman in the backround sing at the begining and end of the song, "we love murda"?

This song is awsome by the way. The guitar in the backround is great. I didnt like the singing at first, but I think it fits the song very well now. Not to mention that guitar right at the end of the song, fucking great. Where have you ever heard rap like this?
