View Full Version : Interesting Japanese Payment

My brother works for a consulting firm in chicago which sometimes sends him to Japan. When you do work there it is customary to be paid in cash. I don't think checks are used for anything. It makes for an interesting situation in that since my brother is paid in advance, he has more cash than he would ever have in hand in the states, and he has to get it home in either yen or USD. Much as he hates to be a cheat, it's nice not to declare it as income if he doesn't have to.
Here's an interesting pic.

Other than business deposits, I don't think I've ever had that much cash in hand. If I'm carrying more than a few hundred bucks, I get a
little twitchy.
i felt pretty seedy with it. we went straight to the flight centre only to be told to come back in 20 minutes. we stayed in a mall which is notorious for fights and muggings etc. i had my hands in my pockets all night.

Having lots of notes is cool, even if they aren't actually worth much. Quite recently I had about €1500 in cash to pay for my new TV. I always pay by card, but for some reason in the German store my card was not accepted, so I had to draw all the cash out from an ATM.
