View Full Version : Is anything impressive anymore?

It doesn't feel like we're being subjected to anything radical or new these days; moreso just revamped versions of things that were once radical and new. The mp3 player is just a walkman, mobile phones are just adaptations of the telephone, videogames look better but play much the same, music is perpetually about 'the next big thing' to the point where people hop on board the latest and greatest and move on (leaving a small loyal cluster), movies keep telling the same story, teenagers are still just sex-crazed and self-absorbed despite how different the world appears to be.
I think society is hitting a plateau. Space-travel works as a pretty good analogy for how I feel; we know we want to live on Mars, the first hurdle is inventing the technology to get there. I'm fucking high as shit..

Hey mike what are you up to today man? What's with the pills? How you been bro?
mikizee

The pills thing was a joke, given the panic about the board.
I'm cool. Shot a music video with Masta Ace on Monday in Melb. I caught his fucking cold. So now I have a weird american cold.
Its another week I guess. I want to be high too.

i was looking through a massive holiday toy catalogue recently and all the toys are fucking the same just styled differently. nothing is fucking new. NOTHING. i think growing up in the eighties and early nineties was the penacle of kickass cool toys. i was not at all impressed. the only thing that did impress me though were these tiny radio controlled hellicopters. that shit wasn't around back then.

Actually, I saw a Transformers toy ad on TV the other night, that was surprising. I remember watching them 20 years ago. That's impressive at the same time as proving my point.

the transformers were the things in the catalog that bugged me the most. they were exactly the same but with just more plastic and stickers. i'd figured by now they'd be transforming in much more ridiculous ways. and they've made them much smaller. i remember my optimus prime was fucking massive.

I'm still impressed by some things, but they're more or less things people achieve, as opposed to the creation of new shit.

i think all of the stuff that would be considered impressive just ends up being pretty fucked up on a moral standpoint
like all the cloning shit and half the medical breakthroughs. while they are really amazing things, sometimes they have to figure them out with a little bit of work in the immoral side of things

I tried eating rice yesterday, and must have hit a nerve. Within seconds my legs went numb, I started sweating profusely (I mean, drenched) and my vision went completely blurry. That was pretty impressive.

you underestimate the power of curiosity. and i hardly think i'd call it "trauma"... especially "for life." yeah its fuckin nasty, but i mean, ive seen my dog eat vomit before. nothing new.

Somebody showed me three 'actresses' pissing, shitting and vomiting on another 'actress' and then they all got into a shower together. She looked like the animated chocolate people from the Cadbury's ads. That was impressive, 2 years ago.
