Question for the djs and musicians

So, I've got a Boss Br864 8 track recorder (http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/BR-864/) and I just recently bought a Boss DR-670 drum machine. (http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/DR-670/)

I'm trying to record, I hooked them up via midi but, the Br864 only has a midi out and no midi in. Does this mean I have to buy an external mixer to record?

I tried pluggin my drum machine into the recorder via the guitar/bass port. It works but, it doesn't have the same balance.

Yeah, they're closed over the weekend and I plan on recording tomorrow.

If I have to use an external mixer then, I'll probably have to bypass using one by just plugging into my guitar port and recording the left drums on one track and the right on another track. It's gonna be a pain in the ass.

I imagine I'll have to buy an external cause in both of the manuals, it shows a ghost external mixer with the cables leading to and from both machines.

you'd think there would be a midi in/out for almost every piece of recording equipment nowadays :confused:
