View Full Version : A sad encounter with haters

So last night I was at this party with shitty music. The Spice Girls played twice, OK?
Then this guy we're with says "You know what we need? We need to hear Brass Monkey. Right now." With my iPod and hostess permission I was able to make that happen. Next thing, we're hearing some dorkpods on the sofa go "What the fuck is this? Are we seriously listening to the fucking Beastie Boys?!" "Who put this on?"
I removed my iPod and our group went to the kitchen for some more extra strong mulled cider and rum.
Now, I realize Brass Monkey's sometimes not a deep enough cut for lovers and perhaps too abrasive for haters. Still, though. As I sipped my holiday beverage and pressed on with the evening, deep down inside my little heart was hurt. Not even an ironic smile? Just pure unbridled hate?
Sigh, that is my story. Figured I'd post it here for all you good people. Do we hug now? I mean, that'd be weird, but I will if you want to.

This is awesome!!! Not that you were dissed of course, but that I'm not the only one who takes it personally when the BBoys are insulted. Unless I'm missing your point then this is just a sad story all around....

god. you've gotta be like 14 right? i mean, this made you sad enough to write about it on the internet? that these 'dorkpods' don't like the beasite boys? thats like writing online about your volkswagon cuz someone straighut dissed the jetta. I'm currently upset because a person i thought was my friend dissed snickers bars.... and i love snickers bars. this makes me sad.

Best virtual group hug ever! :D
In reality (as most of you gleaned (y)) I am in fact still finding reasons to live. The offical Beasties swat team of trained negotiators helped too. I even went back on solid food today!

I would have been upset too. Good job though on taking the initiative to play some Beastie Boys.

I had a BBoy -ignorant- party experience myself this evening. I was hosting so the music was on shuffle from my ipod (no Spice Girls ;-). A good thing except everyone started to realize that every 5th song was a Beastie Boys tune, so I thought it was time to step away and re-shuffle. I first realized that I might have a problem when I over heard someone say " I don't think I could even name all the Beastie Boys" and a friend replied "well, now's your chance for an education , I bet Izzy could even tell you the names of their grandmothers". We all laughed and I decided it best not to talk about Grandma Hazel and Grandma Tilly....

You should have gone up to them and said
"You can't see me baby boy you got them cataracts
I'm right here, straight out the hood just like an alley cat."
