So I recently joined this other site called Boxden, and some punk is trashing the boys. Here's what he said about them.
"im a big fan ov music, i listen to everything.
so im chillin, listenin to xm,
an they start playin beastie boys songs.
i love 80's rap, and i love the beastie boys,
but with the exception of "brass monkey"
EVERYTHING ELSE IS COMPLETELY THE SAME.
D'sh*t SUCKS.
they don talk bout sh*t, half the stuff they say is inaudible.
then, they juss emphasize a lot ov words.
why do people like them?
im not asking you to ban them from the Earth,
but do you agree,
that they actually are garbage.
an they owe russell an rick a huge favor."
Anyway I responded by setting him straight but he replied saying
"na nigga, im not ignorant at all, an i actually kno quite bit bout them.
i got every album on my hard drive, except license to ill, cuz its on CD.
so get off my d*ck; anyway.
they don do sh*t but scream. i kno it was in the 80's, and hiphop was different. but the beastie boys have NOT changed. they fit in the 80's, an maybe the late 90's. but they STILL fu*kIN SUCK."
I've already responded on my thoughts and pointed out lots of stuff that has changed through out there career but wonderd how some of the boardmembers would have responded. Discuss Please...

can't be objective on this one
for me their music is undying, always cheer me up or calm down
ya know ... get me together
i understand/feel them in everything they do or have done - simple as that
every word, beat, sound ... awake in me something special ... on & on and on the new higher level
i grew up on their shit
what is interesting is that I'm living in relatively small country,
thousands of miles away from NYC and don't know a single person who doesn't like beasties!
(believe me i know a lot of people, all shapes and sizes lol)
i remember i was so proud when our main tv station was broadcasting Live Earth,
and commentator (a very respectable multi instrumentalist) announced:
" and now, one of the most significant group to ever walk the Earth!"
he claims they scream?
haha..
and he can't spell 'ov' (of)?
haha...
i'm peeing my pants...

WOW! Sorta reminds me of the assholes on here who talked shit about FREESTYLE MUSIC.
Your gonna have asswipes that speak thier mind, nothing wrong with that. Thier taste just differs and you can tell how intelligent they are simply by listening to thier reactions.

The dude clearly showed his ignorance by using the word "NIGGA".... So really, who gives two flying shits on what he thinks about music or anything in general.....

It's funny - the Beasties often seem to be a 'love them or hate them' sort of band - which is better than provoking indifference.
I think a lot of people completely misunderstand them and their motivations.
I also think they're underrated in the Hip Hop world.
I once read an Organized Konfusion interview (I think?) where the question was something like - "what's the best thing about Hip Hop?" and their response was "those that know" and the worst thing?- "those that don't!" - like life in general - those that say, don't know. Those that know, don't say.
People that go around having strong negative opinions about something as broad as music culture are often just trying to deflect from their own insecurities and the Beasties being a culture-crossing band are bound to draw people's insecurities about cultural belonging out in to the open - which can only be a good thing in the long run.
I think the Beastie's strength is just in being true to themselves regardless of narrow minded nay-sayers. Their output has been broader and more diverse than some minds can cope with.
I've only started taking part in any kind of online chatroom/forum/message board in the last year (thanks BBMB - I think?) and one thing I will say is that often such places are just a breeding ground for haters and argumentative assholes with poorly researched opinions. Sometimes it makes me want to vomit. At least when people get shirty on the BBMB they usually do so with a reasonable dose of humour and good-willed banter.
That's all I can think ov saying at the moment.

True Story!
Which is probably why I posted it here, cuz I can't believe (well i guess I can but...) that people are that ignorant and will then defend their position without even haveing a good knowlege base about what they're talking about. You just want to punch them in the face and be like, "NO YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. (followed by a string of profanities).

THE THING THAT STRUCK ME IS THAT HE THINKS THAT THE BEASTIES OWE "RUSSELL AND RICK" ALOT....
IM NOT SURE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO IMAGINE THAT RUSSELL AND RICK ARE PRETTY GRATEFUL TO THE BEASTIES AS WELL....

I remember years ago back in high school when kids would say things like "the beastie boys are wannabe niggers" (wigger was not yet a word or in conception) and "the beastie boys suck". It was typical of teens.
but some of those same people that said that soon liked them years later.
same thing went for a friend of mine who was into metal then grunge. as soon as "so wacha want" and "sabotage" was released, he became an instant fan. he even had a great time at lalapoolza when the beasties performed.
All you have to do is ignore ignorant people like that brainless hater

 HOLY SHIT SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE THE BEASTIES!!?!?!?!?!
I dont really see the big deal about this.... so he doesn't like the Beasties. So what? I can't stand it when people get pissed off at other people for thinking their favorite band. Get over it people have different tastes.

I'm not pissed just cuz he doesn't like the Beastie Boys. I'm just ticked cuz he said the beastie boys sound the same in all their songs, when we all know that that isn't even legit. I don't care if someone doesn't like my favorite band but if they're gonna bitch about it atleast come up with a real argument or a real reason why you don't like the band. I know people have different opinions and I'm cool with that.
