Sorry to go starting new threads - there was one here a while back about favourite concerts of 2007 or something but I can't find it anymore and I wanted to come and boast to a bunch of random strangers about all the great gigs I've managed to see this year!

With the troubles that the recording industry has been experiencing recently it seems like the live music industry has really grown. There's been a lot of big reunions and a lot of interesting new bands emerging and although it can get expensive it seems that 2007 has been a great year to catch good gigs - living in London I've been spoilt for choice. This year I've managed to see (in Chronological order) -

Field Music
Bouncing Souls
Black Keys
Arcade Fire
The Fall
El-P
Money Mark
Antibalas
Fu Manchu
KRS One
Grinderman
KRS One (again)
Beastie Boys (in Paris!)
Against Me
Resin Dogs
Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood
Sonic Youth (performing Daydream Nation)
Beastie Boys (3 nights in a row including a Gala show)
Buck 65
The Coral
Bad Brains
Sunn O))) & Boris

I've got a funny felling I've forgotten something?

I was disappointed to miss Bo Diddley (he had a stroke), the Black Kids (paid to see them last weekend but the club promotor listed the times all wrong - gutted) and had wanted to see GZA perform Liquid Swords a couple of weeks ago but I was just too skint.

I never thought I'd see Sonic Youth or Bad Brains live. I was a bit indulgent going to the Gala tour 4 times but fuck it - they're my favourite band and they put on one hell of a good show everytime I see them.

Between all the great tours and festivals some people must have had an unbelievable year - anyone else seen some good gigs recently?

In February I went to a killer Everclear gig...got to meet the band.

In late April Coachella was a blast...seeing Rage was a dream.

In September "Weird Al" put on the best show I've ever seen....the man is a genius. And I saw the Smashing Pumpkins later in the month....another awesome experience.

October brought half of The Pharcyde (Fatlip and Slim Kid Tre tour together...) which was very nice. Got to meet the guys...

And in a couple weeks, Wu-Tang.

Going through the list of the concerts I've benn too this year:

- Melvins
- QOTSA
- Smashing Pumpkins
- Sonic Youth
- Dinosaur jr.
- Porcupine Tree
- High On Fire
- Shellac
- Unsane
- Therapy?
- Björk
- Arno

I realize that for the most part these are all "old" bands (some reuniting this year btw)....this could nearly be my 1993 gig list :(

There was nothing wrong with music in 1993 - The fact that a bunch of your favourite bands from that time are still going strong just goes to prove it - you've seen some fucking great bands this year:) I wonder how many of the current big-sellers are likely to be on top of their game in 2021?

1993 was one of my favourite years in terms of good music being released. There's no time like the present obviously but has anyone else checked that 'Nineties' tune by Giant Panda - it's a remake of Tribe's 'The night is on your mind' and it's kind of a nostalgic track about the changing times and styles of hip hop - it's much better than I just made it sound - if you're familiar with the original Tribe track it's an impressively crafted track.

Lol! There was nothing wrong with 1993's music indeed, I just notice now that I put the :( smiley instead of the :)

In case that sounded a bit defensive - I've just noticed most of my list are quite 'old' now too! Bugger!

Some of the new bands I'm checking are a bit under-the-radar for me to feel the need to tell the world about but could be huge in the next year or two. It seems that there's a lot of interesting new bands emerging from all over the place and everyone's getting more involved in making and releasing music and artwork.

The music scene is adapting to loads of new technology and although the traditional record industry is struggling a bit, I'm hopeful that great new music will emerge from the chaos.

I am so poor lately that the only shows I get out to see are local and cover bands.... I do have to say that the best show I have been to in the past year is "JIMMIES CHICKEN SHACK"... They are kind of local and somewhat recognisable in the US... They put on killer live shows... I try and get out whenever they are in an hour or so driving range.... Other than that the local shows are pretty fun and cheap....

So when you go to a Galactic show are any of the featured MC's there or is it just the band?....I love that damned record....

I've been to over 70 gigs this year, and the year hasn't finished yet, there's still at least three I'm going to
(Plastic Pals + De Osaligas Kapell, Roky Erickson and Weeping Willows w special guests Jens Lekman,
Ian McCulloch and Andy Bell) and a couple I want to go to (José Gonzales and Diamond Dogs tribute to Sam Cooke).
And I've missed an awful lot of gigs cause I'd been ill or hadn't bothered.

I followed BRMC's whole UK tour last spring. The gig at Camden Underworld was the best (during Camden Crawl),
it was a madhouse I tell ya, a madhouse!!!! :D
At Astoria gig Rob came over right in front of me and I could hold him for ages (I think he likes to be touched...)
until I sort of patted him on the butt that now's the time to move on... :D

I saw BRMC 11 times this year (20 all together) and Beastie Boys 6 times (them as well 20 all together),
so all of those are my favourite gigs of the year!. The Nomads were good every time (as always),
Magic Numbers both times, just about all the gigs at Gearclub, and the Plastic Pals...
But to narrow it down to those which were the best were BRMC in Dublin, Camden Underworld and Malmö,
Beastie Boys' instrumental gigs in Paris and Roundhouse in London and the second night at Brixton, Eagles of Death Metal at Debaser in Stockholm,
Jarvis at Berns in Sthlm and Weeping Willows at Kafé44 in Sthlm.
Oh yeah and Ed Harcourt at a secret gig at Landet and at Nalen last Sunday!
