View Full Version : What can elevate your liver enzymes?
I went to my doctor about three weeks ago, had bloodwork done, and my cbc/std/blablabla was okay/negative- except, one thing, my liver enzymes were "extremely" high.
Being that my doc is an asshole, she said "lay off the Tylenol and booze for a week" (her EXACT words), and we'll send another script to get a full liver-whatever screening.
So, I went back for more blood work. I ate nothing, and drank just water and cranberry juice for 24 hours straight. Once again, my enzymes came back as being elevated.
For the record; I don't drink often. Last I had alcohol was about 3 months ago??? I can't even really remember, to be honest.
I have to go for an ultrasound next week. :"\
I eat a lot of eggs, now. idk :(

Hi. This happened to me a few years ago -- although in my case it was an easy fix: Never schedule blood work the morning after mardi gras. Still, your doc is indeed an ass for just assuming that it was alcohol-related in your case.
At the time I did some reasearch and found that basically any number of foreign bodies, esp alcohol, Tylenol & Advil (but also antibiotics) can be a factor in elevated liver enzymes. I also found that dandelion root (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/dandelion-000236.htm)is the homeopathic remedy of choice for this. I started taking it. Of course I'm skeptical & no one knows what works, but after a month with the dandelion root my enzymes were lower.
I hope you get to the bottom of it!

I asked my doctor if Advil/ibuprofen would be the cause (I do take it on a semi-regular basis because of constant headaches) and she said no. Just Tylenol. So.. I've no clue what's going on, unless she's actually WRONG and Advil stays in your system for a while. I was tested for HIV (fuck you, afro), as well as Hep C (since that would be a bigger concern right now- I'd have to have full-blown AIDS to have liver issues), and all across the board- negative.
They want me to go for an ultrasound to see if I have cysts or something. Apparently, they're usually harmless. Still, it's fucking scary. Then again, I could be reading way too much into this considering I'm a hypochondriac to the max.
Thank you, btw. If all else fails, I definitely look into that. :)
