sigh, i guess it figures they've long since gotten old & trite in australia. here it's all brand new & i just googled the name from MIA's cd b/c I like what she did w their song. what was their deal in 2005?

a few years ago triple j (a radio station) went to the bush and got some little aboriginal kids to rap.

everyone was just OMG THAT'S SO CUTE LOOK AT THE LITTLE ABORIGINAL KIDS RAP

then they played it again and again, and everyone grew to hate them, and their stupid song about fishing and didge and all things stereotypically australian. novelty shite.

THEN once everyone thought the novelty that was the wilcannia mob was over, MIA had to go and stick them on their album.

then kid p gave me the simple solution - simply delete the track off the album.

ha! CLASSIC, that is so funny and so typical of the way things go. i'm still a sucker for the song (i work with kids . . . i'd never heard it till yesterday . . .) but i'm so glad to know they're an old radio station gimmick b/c the articles i read had them like dumpster diving for their crude mixing equipment. to be honest i have my doubts about MIA's much-hyped backstory too, but hey.
