They're raising rates for the second time in three months, and only giving a week's notice!?

Wow.

I like being able to turn in movies at the store and get a free rental on the spot, but jumping from $14.99 to $21.99 to $29.99 within three
months is mighty nuts.

Looks like it's a Netflix 2008. I wish Greencine (sp?) had faster shipping. :(

i've been off and on again with netflix several times for the past 4 years now

i don't think their prices have changed once. i still pay 16 or 17 bucks a month for my 2 at a time plan

Sounds like they're shooting themselves in the foot on this one.

The e-mail they sent is pretty funny. It's worded as if they're doing their customers a favor.

They're not offering any incentives for the increase in price are they?

I guess those Hollywood deals and exclusivities must of have cost them a fortune. =/

Probably so.

Things were better when Netflix was so far ahead.

I miss Netflix actually.

I miss choices video. Why did they close them all down? :(

Choices? I've never heard of them.

English (maybe UK too) sub blockbuster rental store.

The only one in my area. I literally have no choice(s) now. Blockbuster is too far away.

yeah,my local Choices is now Blockbuster

but what makes me laugh is that HMV and Virgin piss on them for quantity of stuff

Blockbuster stores in the States are pretty crappy. There's so little back catalog. Very few classics, hardly any foreign films, zero silent films.

Online catalog is better, but still.

they have to know how irrelevant they are becoming and this has to be an act of desperation. everyone is just gonna switch back to netflix. dummies. netflix doesnt have all the stores to upkeep, they can afford to be cheaper

If the rates are that high, buy don't rent.

abcdefz
12-20-2007, 11:54 AM
Buying is way more expensive.

29.99 for a rental is less than the cost of a new DVD movie here in Canada.

PS- Fuck Blockbuster, support local businesses.

abcdefz

It's $29.99 for a month, two at a time.

Then you can also return the movies you receive in the mail at one of the stores, and each movie is exchanged for a free rental.

As far as locally owned businesses goes, the closest one to me that has a good inventory is about 40 minutes away by public transportation.
Fuck that.

Move one in someplace downtown and I'm on it. But I'm not that dedicated.

Fair enough, I suppose. Blockbuster still blows.

Actually, in a pinch, one of our branch libraries has a pretty good collection that isn't too scratched up yet. (y)

People still rent at Blockbuster? I haven't used their service in years.

oh really? I haven't gotten that notice yet. but in that case we will be canceling our online membership.(n)

I guess maybe we'll be going back to netflix.

I rented online for a while and copied every single disc. Good value! I move about too much for any online rentals now, and I've still got about 399 of those movies I copied to actually watch before I need to start renting more stuff though.

theres this thing at wegman's (big, very nice, grocery chain, people rave about this place, but anyway) near me.

you rent dvds for a buck a day. it comes out of like a vending machine type of thing. just need to swipe your card. i find it pretty cool.

idk how many you can rent with the blockbuster thing, but doing the math it comes out to 360 a year. you could, if you wanted with the wegmans/vending machine, get 354 movies in a year, for 354 dollars(tough math i know). but the better deal probably depends on how many you watch.

i'm confused, monthly fees? why don't you just pay per movie?

Netflix has this cool online rental thing now. Selection is not that good, but I'm sure it'll get better. Also, I have 3 movies from Netflix for $18 per month. And shipping is great. I'm never more than 2 days without a movie.

It should've landed in your e-mailbox. But I double-checked on their FAQ just to make sure it wasn't fake, and, yup. (n)

It's a subscription service. Their shipping facilities have way way way more inventory than a brick and mortar store.
