I know it causes cancer, bad teeth as well as "Smoker's Face" and all that jazz. But now I want specifics. Nothing embellished, just the facts.

Does it actually lower your immune system's defense? (I've been smoking since 18, and I'll soon be 21. Granted, I don't get 'sick' or legitimately FEEL sick. But like I've said in a previous post- I'm low. Down. I've zero motivation/energy most of the time. I wake up everyday with my head all fuzzy and heavy-like. Groggy and "blah".)
Can it cause facial break-outs (e.g. pimples, oily skin, etc.?)And for all you ex-smokers out thar:

How'd you quit? How'd you NOT gain weight? (Vain, sure, but I did lose a signif amount and don't want it back again.) If I quit now, will said shit-skin reverse itself?

I've read juice helps during the first however many days/hours the nicotine leaves your system- which isn't a very long process, but a grueling one.

Oi! Thanks for the help.

(Cosmo- I'll be waiting...)

All I know is when I did quit, I felt more energy, was able to breath easier and taste and smell better.

A whole six months I quit for and started back up. I plan to quit on new years. I'm not really a resolutions type guy but at least it's an excuse. I don't even like smoking but sure tastes good some times.

Cold turkey is the best way. Anything else is just a crutch.

and as far as the weight gain goes, I heard nicotine is a stimulant and if you quit, your metabolism slows down but I didnt gain weight.

Quitting smoking is pretty much mind control so, if you can control not smoking, you should control your eating and not gain weight.

(granny voice) i was at a pack a day when i was your age. non-smoker for about ten years now.

1) Incentive: Quit while you're in your early twenties with a high metabolism -- weight gain won't be a factor at all compared to later when you hit thirty and have to watch every carrot.

2) Guilt works. I quit because I taught school and the kids would see me on breaks. Promise a child you are quitting.

3) GUM gum gum gum gum. GUUUUUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And pot.

The urge never, ever goes away. But the habit can.

It's one of the sexiest things a girl can do fully clothed, in my opinion. As long as she's an actual smoker and not a weekend 'stiff-hands' social smoker with no style.

^ Christ, I think so too.

Some days I wonder if I took up this otherwise revolting habit whether I'd be one of those sexily smoking women, making eyes at men across the bar.

Maybe.

^ you already are a sexy woman you bimbo!

Oh yeah, i should mention i haven't had a smoke in 3 weeks 1 day, 14 hours and 17 minutes. it's kinda easy to quit if you spend 90% of the time counting how many minutes its been since you last had a smoke

Man I wish I had some good advice....I had quit for over 2 months but just started back up this week. I was feeling great too. You wake up feeling a thousand times healthier, energized and just good overall. I've only been smoking a few days again and I feel like shit. I hate that I smoke but I'm under crazy stress right now....good luck to you though. Smoking is a total turn off if you ask me

it's the exact opposite for me. anytime i see a girl smoking, its an instant turn off in my mind. probably because the smell just drives me crazy.

a guy here at work quit because of his kid, and it was tough for him because he was an construction inspector who basically stands around all day watching these guys work. and all they do in their spare moments is light one up.

but his method was cold turkey on the nicotine and he bought himself bags and bags of blow pops. it gave him something to suck on and play with in his mouth all day. so far it's worked for him, its been about 2 months now

I've been off them since 2003, and smoked pretty heavily for a number of years before. Quitting is the single shittest thing to do. No fun. If you get drunk, let yourself smoke. Concentrate on quitting your habit smokes first

I unfortunately do not have any advice to offer but good luck!

I suppose it's different for everyone when it comes to smoking, because I've smoked before. Enough times that if it were to become a habit it would have by now but I can choose to skip them easily and if I never had one again it wouldn't bother me in the least.

I wonder why that is. Because believe me, I have many many reasons to have pick up such a habit.

My mom quit years ago and told me the thing she appreciated the most was getting back her sense of smell.

I know you're concerned about weight gain, pimples, and immune system but what about cancer, heart disease, and emphysema.
