Having an opinion on music is enough

Really. The amount of times you can just venture an opinion (no matter how shit) and get away with it is hilarious. The truest testament to the fact that the majority don't care to think for themselves about music is the sheer volume of publications full of writers pretending to do all the thinking.

a good majority of critics know more about music than the average joe. they care about it enough to write about it for a living- i take more stock into what they say than casual listeners because of that. sure they can have their head up their ass, but i still would pay attention to what 5 critics would say about an album over what 5 of my friends would say.

Yeah, I mean because of that you can venture an opinion backed by the slightest piece of trivia (to show 'cred') and the average joe (irl) will tend to listen.

I am very opinionated about music, actually to the point where some friends have been dropped because of musical differences, that's probably fucked up in some peoples eyes but at least I can hang around people who truly love music. Passion plays a huge part in opinions and if a writer is truly passionate about his musical views I'll spot it.

So to make a long story short, I agree with Auton.

If I know someone likes music similar to my tastes I will take their opinion very seriously.

Now, we are all on a Beastie Boys message board but I don't really trust any of you to recommend me much unless I know you like other bands I like.
