View Full Version : I Am Legend

It's a really good film, right up until the last 10 minutes which are depressingly typical American religion bullshit. It was a real shame, the movie was going so well and then they had to bring in all that bollocks about God and the ludicrous "I'm listening" thing.

The part in the glass case should have been the beginning of the final act of the movie but instead they tacked on an obviously lazy clichéd ending which really angered me. There was so much potential, especially with that guy who appeared to be some kind of "leader" and the revelation with the test subject. The whole imagery with the shot of the church and the good ol' US Army boys as soon as the gates open at the end was actually sickening.

However I must say Will Smith was impressive against type, and that dog deserves an Oscar. (y)

Yeah, the film is completely different. Don't go in there with any expectations or using the book as your frame of reference, it's been completely trimmed down and Hollywood-ised.

i much preferred "The Omega Man"

I Am Legend was very well made, but yeah, the ending was amazingly weak.

Certainly not one of the best post-apocalyptic movies I have seen, but it was okay. Certain points bothered me about it, and I felt the 2nd half was quite weak. Worth seeing, but nothing spectacular.

I think the first half makes it worth seeing. Will Smith's performance was surprisingly good.

Overall it's just okay though.

I gave in. I watched it.

*sigh*

I tried my best not to continually make comparisons to the book...but failed miserably. I did enjoy parts of the film (i agree about the dog Padster!) but felt totally let down by the ending. What a cop out.

I wonder whether i would have enjoyed it had i not read the book?

I just did a review for this for a newspaper.

The 'third act' of the movie, as many other critics have dubbed it, is lacking in the suspence and excitement of the first two parts. Also, we were much better off not seeing the baddies at all. It would have been better that way, the CGI characters were just too much.

Smith was spectacular though. Not quite Oscar worthy but it showed off his range and his A-list status is now solidified in my mind.

Lex Diamonds

Have you nothing to say about the farcically commodious discovery of the cure or the contradictory all-American/Zionist imagery depicted at the denouement?

Also, why don't you know what third act means? You are a terrible movie critic.

^ Yeah I was gonna mention that as well. And the use of the word "baddies".

What is this tragic newspaper that is so desperate for content that they will print your flawed and generalising critique? Do they not see that publishing the neutered opinions of an overly verbose plebeian will merely exacerate their banality?

I liked it. It wasn't the greatest movie on earth or anything, but it was entertaining. Parts of it were eh...but I was able to look past it.
If you keep trying to dissect most movies these days you won't like anything, since so much shit these days has some sort of jerk off factor.

I just finished watching it - its pretty good - dunno what all the whingeing is about - it was a fair enough ending.
I suppose i should probably read the book but i didnt mind the end at all - thought will was pretty good and it was well made but a bit too short

His supporting actors were awesome, especially the chick in the video store

I don't know, that was my favorite part.

maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I didn't really get that bit with Fred. did he move Fred there? so did Will get caught by one of his own traps? or was that some fiendish plan by the rabid zombies to catch him?

also for the expert on the virus, he seemed to strangely miss that the zombies had actually formed somewhat of a social hierarchy with super angry guy at the top. instead, he merely deduced that they'd lost all semblance of human behaviour.

They copied his trap - thats why one of them risked the sunlight to work out what he had done.
He missed the bit about social hierarchy because as they showed later on - he himself had lost some human behaviour purely because he only had a dog for company for a long time and his head was done in so wasnt thinking clearly. IMO.

I have spoke to people at work today and they all thought the ending was crap and would have preferred if what he said at the end to the darkwalkers had got thru and they had ended up listening to him. Now that would have been a crap ending.

I was thinking more that he was super pissed off and went out yelling, and then at night they did some investigating on how he set it up.

And yeah, that would have been a lot worse of an ending.

You might have a point there but i thought he only really got pissed off when the mutt died.

As for the ending - my collegaues all said the ending was too cheesy then suggested that and i started crying laughing cos their suggestion was beaucoup de fromage.

I meant that after Will Smith captured that chick zombievampireinfected creature the other zombievampireinfected creature got all pissed and stuck his head out and yelled out of anger not to check out what was doin' with Neville's capturing apparatus.

But that means that the Zompires (?) used the same trick on him thinking by themselves and i am not sure about that.
I would have liked more about how it happened but i suppose that wasnt the point of the film

yeah, that major zombie did seem to take it rather personally that Will Smith kidnapped one of his people.

but if they had copied the trap and set it up, why did they just leave him hanging there? they had him. sure it was a little light, but the zombie dogs were out.

The dogs were out but they wouldnt go past that bit of sun to get to his dog - the zompires set the trap the night before and went to bed, they wouldnt have known exactly when it would have sprung and left him hangin there when they got peckish

The 'third act' is a term used by some of the movies critics. It's a term I did not use myself and that is why it remains in quotations.

For those who are unable to do math, such as Padster (who spends most of his time pretending to use words he stole from dictionary.com), Freebasser is correct.

There was newspaper article heading that said "Dogs can come out at Dusk" in the background, so that is why they were sent out first.

do we even need spoiler alerts in this thread...no one seems to care so far....oh well...

spoiler alert:

When he injected homegirl with the possible cure and kept her strapped down and alive while waiting to see what happened next with his cure, why didn't he just do that with the dog instead of killing her? Just to give it time to work through her system like he did with the zombievampireinfected chick.

That shit was probably the hardest part of the movie to get through. Very very tough for me to watch that bit, so I didn't.

carry on.

*SPOILER*

Like some people said, the first 30 minutes of the movie were good, although very depressing.

I cried when the dog dies.:(

The ending was bad, really bad. It was really stupid to choose to die when you fight the whole time to find the cure and actually found it. C'mon!!! Was he so giant that he couldn't get into that damn hole?! I didn't cried when he dies though. Hihihi. Nobody told him to be stupid, at least the dog dies when she has to. She was the smart one, she should have lived foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!:p
