Why would a vegan not masturbate?

Recycling is great and all but I'm not sure I want to be brushing my teeth with somebody's old strap-on.

in a way, yes. the animals are not necessarily killed for what they produce, but they are forced to live in very inhumane conditions and treated very poorly, and eventually die for the industry. if sheep just sneezed off their wool and presented it to humans with a ribbon and a curtsy that'd be another thing

sorry. but I use to raise sheep. I guess if you are talking about wool that's mass produced by a very large farms then yes, they may live in inhumane conditions and are treated poorly, etc. But there are still small farms out there who are not mistreating the animals and have both plenty of green grazing land and are feeding the sheep in addition to allowing them to graze freely. the sheep are often very tame. some are even bottle fed.
There are sanitary reasons for sheering a sheep (and docking thier tails), it's not just about harvesting the wool. (though we've gone and breed sheep to be woolier than maybe they would be other wise, because we want to harvest the wool.) Poop does become impacted around the anus and maggots and other infections can occur. sheering helps to eliminate that espeically in the summer when the flies are plentyful. it's a might bit cooler for the sheep as well, keeping them from getting heat stroke.
I have participated in sheering sheep. IN MY EXPERIENCE it's no less tramatic for the sheep than taking a dog to the groomer is tramatic to a dog. If you think grooming a dog, and clipping its nails and hair is inhumane then you can certainly make a stink about sheering sheep. Again, maybe places that mass produce wool have some fucked up ways of sheering, but your average little farmer isn't hurting his sheep when he sheers. (not saying there isn't cruelty in the wool industry, but I am saying I beleive that cruelty-free wool does exist.)

i'm sure it does. but you'd have to agree that the majority of what's out there can't be guaranteed to be that.
