where do ya want to end up livin when you get old and grey?
A nice and small area where people are few but, when they're around you happen to know all of them?
A place that's like a quarter mile away from the nearest neighbor or, at least 20 neighbors within feet from you?
I already see myself being old and grey livin at my mom's old house, fishin from the back porch. Got my legs propped up on the railing, smokin a pipe.
My wife making awesome chinese style fish dishes from the fish that I've caught. All in privacy.
Although the big city has alot more conveniences, I almost dread goin out to take care of whatever normal chores. I now see why things such as paying bills and shopping were invented cause it's such a pain in the ass waiting in line and such just to buy a few necessaties. In small towns, you walk in to a store and there's like a 4 people max waiting line at malls and stuff.
Which kind of environment do you think you'd grow the most accustomed to when you get older?

Ideally, for retirement, we'd like to buy some land in a place like the Catskills or the Poconos and build our own house which would be our main digs, whilst keeping a pied a terre in the NYC area for the odd weekend and such. When we're old enough that driving and such becomes too much of a nuisance or we need to be near more doctors or whatever, then maybe move back to the city on a more permanent basis.

i see myself in my mid-sized city. i'd like to move to the DC/Baltimore area for a few good years and then move back. my family land is being willed to me so i imagine i'll alight down in the country eventually.

It's better to burn out than it is to rust.

i kind of enjoy the middle sized city now, and my inclination is to say big city. but i think if it were the extreme country, i could live with that too
none of this suburb bullshit

HAWAII!
actually, I don't know. I think a city would be too fast-paced for me. I see old ladies hanging around the city and I worry about their safety.
I'd like to live in some resort retirement village or something, keep the young whipper snappers out of my face, ya heard?!

Having lived in a city or what some might call a city, I have lived in a small town area not too far from cities and prefer it. I love nature and hate the hustle and bustle or big cities. Granted it is energizing, but a bit claustrophobic and isolating.
I wouldn't mind living on the outskirts (1 to 2 hours) of a city, someplace with lots of nature for hiking, biking, fishing, canoing, snowshoeing, and stuff.

i always wanted to live in a cuddly austrian village surrounded by mountains and cows and a lake and drowning cows (y)
instead i live on the city side of austria, grey vs grey, smelly cars, too many people and too much noise

I've done both. From a town of 428 to L.A. I want to retire in the mountains near a snow resort near a mid sized to small city. That city will need to have a movie theater in it at the least. Plus today would be a little easier living in a small town with the internet and all.
