My girlfriend thinks I’m being an “anti-social dick” cause she has a friend whom has a boyfriend who wants to hang out with me outside of their company….he’s a nice enough guy,but we really have very little in common….he’s kind of a redneck, works in the oil and gas sector, enjoy’s 4X4’ing and Keith Urban…classic Albertan….it’s fine doing a little pub time with the guy but that’s that….it occurs to me that maybe I just don’t want “new” friends at all…regardless of how we gel or don’t….do you want new friends in your life or are you ,like me, a supposed selective, elitist, prick?

I dunno man. I've lived in some pretty down home parts in Louisiana and Ohio and I've had my share of redneck friends.
My ex gf was kind of one. Listens to dwight yolkyham, square dances, had a dad who thought he was john Wayne with a coffee can for a spitoon right next to his couch. He'd just straight up spit in that thing without even moving his head.
But, alot of those backwoods people are pretty closed minded. Half the time they babble on about some racist stuff that I have no interest in and god forbid if you marry or date out of your race (or family for most).
Yeah, there's just some friends you can do without.
Will you be my pal, moot?

Most of my friends are getting out of high school with early graduation so my small network of friends are pretty much going to be gone and never seen again in about 4 days. The problem with most of the kids I meet that are my age is they're complete idiots and I can't relate to them.
I spend most of my time with my better half anyway and don't really feel the need to hang out with other people. So to answer the question, no. Not really...

In the past 2 years I've acquired several new friends, by virtue of being on the 'new mum' circuit. Which is kind of nice - I got to meet lots of really nice people I otherwise probably wouldn't have if we weren't all sharing this experience. At first all of our conversations we about baby stuff, but now the relationships have developed into ones that stand on their own - although, to be sure, our time together definitely does center around kiddie activities, but now we talk about all manner of things.
I don't know that I'd be keen now on working on forging friendships with people with whom I have little in common. Not that I can't see the value in doing so, but just because my social time is so limited right now (again, the 'mum' thing). But I'm not opposed to it, and maybe in the future I might be more inclined to seek out people with whom I have less in common, who knows.

it's one thing to want new friends that you cultivate on your own. it's another to feel forced to make a new friend because your significant other has a connection and wants you involved.
so i don't think your an anti-social dick. why should you have to be best friends with her friend's boyfriend? It sounds like you socialize with the guy just fine.
I always hope that my boyfriend will get along with my friends and thier boyfriends, but I don't try to force it. he doesn't have to have the same friends as me.

thanks...see now I am feeling like a bit of a jerk...he's gone and done the classic canadian male bonding thing and invited me to a hockey game...and turning down a free hockey ticket is like a slap to the face....I don't know....

Why not go to the hockey game and make a go of it? You never know, he might turn out to be more interesting than he seems on the surface. Or, you know, not. Either way, it will give you good credit with your gf because you can say you honestly tried, and you get to watch some hockey and maybe even drink some beer.

once jesus sent me a myspace friends request but i told him to fuck off
Keith Urban had a drug problem and I heard the other day that he knocked up Nicole Kidman. It is a fact that this makes him cool but cannot spare his fans of the redneck label. I don't think a true redneck listens to pop country music. Don't they listen to stuff like Kid Rock? When I was a kid rednecks loved some Marshall Tucker Band.
The 1st concert I ever saw was the Charlie Daniels Band. I think I was 16. Charlie had long hair and I hate to say that The Devil Went Down to Georgia just came out. I can remember passing a joint between friends while he played. I know the words to Long Haired Country Boy by heart. I think Jeff Foxworthy has a joke that goes something like.....if you know the words to Long Haired Country Boy by heart...........
What is this thread about? Oh, friends..........he likes Keith Urban so make sure in the future not to say pub. Say bar or watering hole.

stoli is my best friend :(
I'm always looking for new friends, as I get often bored at home. I've had the opportunity to meet some lovely friends; friendships you can hold onto forever. I used to be an anti-social person for many years, until recently, and I'm doing a lot better in that department now.

No...I believe it’s mostly Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr….actually come to think of it I think Kid Rock hangs with both of those clans….

If you are an anti-social dick, I'm an anti-social asshole!
I hate people and their complicated faces!
I'd rather be quiet in my little world with very well-known people.:)
