I have.

We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless we find mistakes or you owe other taxes,
you should receive your refund by January 29, 2008.

:)

Yeah. I filed (Federal) for free online. Haven't done California taxes yet, but I don't expect much of a refund here, plus filing state taxes
online is where they ding you for a fee.

Go to irs.gov and on the left side you'll find link for free e-filing. 1040 or 1040EZ, whichever.

Has anyone ever used H&R Block? I'm not saying I'm too lazy to do my own taxes, but frankly - I just don't like figuring out a bunch of confusing forms when I've got other stuff to do with my free time.

Filing online takes, like five minutes.

I'm sure it'd be longer if I made a lot more, owned property or stocks or whatever, but my taxes just aren't that complex.

I don't even save receipts from donations because I just don't want to deal with it. Plus the whole "give freely, don't let your right hand
know what your left hand is doing" thing.

Are you employed legally in the U.S.?

How long have you been here?

Yeah -- your employer(s) are supposed to have this at least postmarked by the end of January.

Happily, we got ours last week.

I think I'm taking a hit this year...failed to build enough shelter in and liquidated some assets....(n)

If you try to sit-sit I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk I'll tax your feet

I slammed away 8 grand in RRSP-GIC's this year. Im gonna get a banging tax return.

Ill probably pull all my retirements savings out of the bank in about 2 years though so I can buy my first house. if you use RSP $ (up to 20 grand) as a down payment you dont have to pay taxes on it. iI'probably end up living all alone in said house with only my pet hamster to keep me company, and less old age financial security under my belt, but atleast I can reminisce about that tax return of 2008.

i just got my w2 forms from work on friday, so i could probably do mine.

although, i did work multiple jobs, so i probably need to do that too. i think i'll just wait until my parents have theirs done by a friend, and piggy back on that for at least one more year here. i can't beat having it done for free!

Our UK ones are done (they have to be in by then end of Jan) and our packet of papers from the US accountants just arrived in the post yesterday, so we'll get those out this weekend. It's a pain in the ass, because we don't have to pay any US taxes, but we have to file anyway. Bastards.

I'm still waiting on my W2's, so once that happens, I'm hoping my dad won't fuck up my shit.

Do you have dual citizenship?

No, not until around June.

That wouldn't actually make any difference tax-wise, though.

I can't remember the last time I did my taxes. I get an already filled out paper for me to look at. And if I'm ok with what they've written, then I don't do anything.

They are tax people who work for the government.
So I check that they do things right, and not the other way around.

I don't even know how to do mine, if I do both countries, and if so whether or not I claim both countries' earnings on each form. Bleh. :(

based on what ms. peachy said, it sounds like you'll at least have to file the US tax return. and if you earned wages in the US for 2007 my guess is that you'll have to pay taxes on them.

i did an internship at a tax court but it was all property tax stuff, so i'm useless here

Well if I file in the US, I should get everything back. I have my education tax credit for last semester, plus I was still under a certain tax income bracket since I only worked until August in the US. Hmm.

I want money!

I did mine online as soon as I got my w2...I'm getting about 2 g's back this year!! I'll probably waste it all on clothes, make-up, and shoes instead of saving it or paying my tuition like a good girl should. I'm not very good with the finances:(

Ok, I have turned my paperwork into my CPA and I have elected to e-file to the IRS as well as direct deposit my refund. I am curious if this will speed up how quickly I receive my refund. I have never turned in my taxes so early before (usually wait until April and get my check in May), so I'd like to hear stories from any of you who actually file early.

i wonder if since i elected for direct deposit if the tax stimulus check will also be deposited?

A-Z you ALWAYS get yours back so fast....I tried to e-file but ended up doing it the old fashioned way so I guess 5-6 weeks till I see it.

kll let me know how fast it comes via e-file, Im curious.
