View Full Version : Massages?

I've never had a professional massage before. I slept in the office at my Sundance job the other night because it was a late night and driving down the canyon seemed useless (the office is a hotel room). I slept on the floor and my back is sore as fuck now combined with sitting on the floor and leaning over to put together packet things.
Anyway, I've never had a massage, anything certain I should ask for? I think I'm going to go to Massage Envy, it's a stupid big chain but they have some special for your first time and it's only like 40 bucks for one hour.
I don't think I could handle anything too intense but I would probably be too wussy to ask them to stop.
I had one of those stone massages. it wasn't as good as everyone said it was. I was also worried that I would get a chubby during it, but luckily....the lady looked like a grandma.
I think AceFace used to do that shit professionally...she can probably give you the scoop.
Are you working on the mountain? i forgot how that thread ended. and am too lazy to look for it.

The first time I went to Thailand I had a professional massage. I thought it would be a good idea because I was on crutches at the time (I had snapped my achilles 12 days prior and had surgery like 5 days before I flew to Thailand). I was all sore from hobbling around and grumpy that I couldn't run around like my friends (even though I still had a blast). So I got a massage at the place in my hotel (and no it wasn't one with a happy ending, thank you very much) and it hurt like hell. I felt like they beat the shit outta me but "I'm tough" so I didn't complain. About 3 minutes after it was over I felt like a new man though! Go for it.
Yeah its weird. My boss was telling me about a massage he got and it hurt like a mother fucker, and he said he got a little sick afterwards but the next day he felt better than he had in decades. I think he said something about toxins that were trapped in his body were released hence him getting sick and being told to drink a lot of water afterwards.

it's the lactic acid buildup in your body (if you don't work out regularly) that gets released during a massage that hurts you.

I have one at least once a month, but fortnightly if I can manage it because I've got back and neck problems. As Tone said, it can hurt like buggery but you also come out feeling like a new person. It also depends on the type of massage you get. A pure relaxation massage doesn't hurt at all and is killer good. Thats what I'd go for if you don't have any other back issues.

THIS is exactly right! in my professional opinion, which i don't get to say that very often, a massage should hurt. you need to get that shit worked out! yeah a good petting is nice AFTER you've gotten it all worked out. i actually gave a massage tonight!

what sort of suggestion for a massage would you give to someone with jacked up shoulders and a tight lower back? is an hour a good length to get everythign worked out? i really want to get one because i'm really aching recently and i can't get myself to go run or anything extra physical bcause of it

Haha. I got referred to many happy ending massages while waiting at the airport in Bangkok for a taxi to my hotel rooms.
Not to mention the books that look like menus with pics of the massuses, or should I say pudwackers.

Start off with a small amount of pressure, so it doesn't scare you off from them. And drink lots of water, afterwards.

I see these signs for Thai Massage places everywhere out here. Like a Thai massage is so much more different than a normal massage? I don't get it.
Of course, the schoolboy in me thinks that a Thai massage means it's one of those places that gives you the "happy ending." Which, I've actually heard of a couple places like that from my boss. I think I'll steer clear of massage joints for now though.
Anyway, what the hell is so different about a Thai massage? If it's anywhere near as good as Thai food is... well, I may have to change my policy.
