sound as good as they did on Hello Nasty. TT5B sounded kinda flat to me.

The engineering on HN made them sound really crisp and Mike sounded a lot better than he did on tt5b.

I wonder who they will bring in on this joint?

i agree, i didn't like the SOUND of the vocals on TT5B. sounded overly mixed or something. it made Adrock seem less squeeky (yeah that's my own term) and annoying. i missed that!

I don't think the lack of whiny-ness was a result of the mixing as much as it was him just not really whining much (which, thanks to your post, I just realized). Now that I listen back to TT5B, Adrock doesn't really whine at all. Interesting. I wonder if he has trouble reaching that pitch in his later years, or if it's just a matter of maturity.

On another note, I wonder if Mario would even take the job if the bboys were to request his expertise on another record. Last I heard he was living in like Brazil or something like that. Not to mention, weren't there words flying around about he and Yauch not seeing eye to eye on some issues?

Personally, I think they desperately need an outside producer working with them. I respect the fact that they tried their hand at doing it themselves a coupla times here, and for the most part they didnt fall on their face, it turned out more or less listenable. But the fact remains, they are at their most potent when working behind a producer. And there's so many great producers out there that would help bring them back to the point of significant record-making.

sorry for the long post.:o

^Please God no!^

Can't stand the smugness of that guy and the fact he needs to tell us every five minutes where he lives and who he knows.

Typical Mark Ronson:

Me and Amy (Winehouse) were kicking it together in my New York Apartment when a person from New York came over and brought me some New York pizza. Then I listened to my New York radio show with some rapper from New York. I want to be a Part of it (New York, New York).

I think Phil Spector is free, now.

"Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" indeed.

it's not like people are saying "let Mark Ronson take over and show them how it's done". they know how it's done. Those other albums were produced by the Beastie Boys and so and so.

A Mark Ron affair is the closest thing we could get to a Dust Brothers thing. Serious. I don't get people always saying timbaland this or dre that. A producer should let them do some shit, and be on good enough terms to kinda suggest something and have them not go "yeah, right". He gets a good instrument sound, they make instrument sounds. hope they click on this mix up shit, but if not i'm cool.

I hope the bombast is present on this new spliff, cause as good as some of it's been, shits kinda meek (for them).

As much as I hate jumping on wagons, I have to agree that Ronson and the bboys would be a tasty, not to mention appropriate pairing. And I don't just say that in a fanboy, "Ronson's so hot right now" way either. Haters can knock him all they want, the fact is he's from the same mold as the Beasties really: a well-to-do kid brought up on tons of music, not to mention playing instruments, who fell in love with hip-hop and made a name for himself through it. And now he's come full circle back to working with live instrumentation again and makin it funky. A collaboration between these two forces would yield both great hip-hop and great instrumentals, not to mention whatever else otherworldly ideas and experimentation any of these funksmiths may have tugging at their collars.

In all reality, though, it seems the beasties like to collab with producers who aren't already giant household names (at least that aren't before they've worked with them). I think utilizing the "un-tapped talent" is actually one of their most under-recognized ingredients for success.

Dust Brothers made big moves before working on PB.

^^^^

True, but there's a big difference between working with Tone Loc and the beasties. The bboys were coming off one of the biggest selling albums of the decade, plus Paul's Boutique speaks volumes to the likes of "Loc'd After Dark". Not that Tone was the only shit they'd worked on pre-beastie, but he was hands down the biggest. Either him or Young MC. All I'm saying, the Dust Brothers' name became far, far more common once they had worked with the beasties. Even nowadays PB and Odelay are the two most referenced albums to date when researching the Dust brothers.

I'm saying, that reputation came years down the track (much like the album's). People even knowing the producer's name in 1988 made them a big deal. PB flopped harder than Young M.C and Tone Loc, too.

Beastie Boys would be the biggest thing Ronson could have worked on thus far (in theory), but he's still a big deal already. Not having a debate, though. I'm sure we're thinking somewhere along the same lines.

I think it's time to hook up with Rick Rubin again. Not in a LTI rehash kind of way though. He's produced some pretty diverse shit in his life and almost anything he touches turns to gold these days.

Ronson been dope since Here Comes The Fuzz. His hip-hop production is Beastiecentric, peep that album and you feel like it's what TT5B should have been. Hopefully they will link up, I know Ronson's got love for the Beatsie movement and I'm sure they appreciate his freshness.

If it happens then I hope they work the phrase "SPECIAL GUEST STARS MARK BRONSON" into the album at some point. (y)

Just as long as he only produces and not promotes then I'd be happy with that.

I never even heard of Mark Bronson. Yeah well anyway I hope the beastie boys do whatever the hell they want on the next album and if you don't like it then hey, fuck you!
