I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!'
Things have got to change.
But first, you've gotta get mad!...
You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!'
Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis.
But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"
I dare ya'all...it's therapeutic...
"Network" baby's "Network"...

(y) Top top movie - well ahead of its time -
you could go one step further by throwing your chair out of the window first

Network has some good ideas and some good acting, but it's really more of a screed. Waaaaaaaaayyyyyy overrated.

But I did love Clooney's character misquoting the movie in Out of Sight:
"I'm mad as hell, and and I'm not gonna take any more of your shit!"
*self-satisfied chuckle*

Actually, it'd be cool if Tim Robbins rewrote the script and shot it. Dead Man Walking is one of the most even-handed social films ever made;
I didn't know he had it in him. (y)

Some people will have / Some simply will not / But they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain / Some people will work / Some never will / But they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain / Like this: / It's society's fault I don't have a job / It's society's fault I'm a slob / I'm a drunk, I don't have a brain / Give me a pamplet while I complain / Hey pal you're living in the land of the free No-one's gonna hand you opportunity...

i have no idea what a screed is and cant be arsed looking it up.
I watched it when i was about 18 and had no idea it was a big film of its time - i just thought it was really good and thought provoking and a bit sad in parts

Kind of a boring rant rather than a reasoned argument.
Sort of like a better Crash.

I'm cool with movies taking a point of view -- movies as editorials, you might say -- but you have to be fair about it. You can't just
interview pedophile priests and say you've made a thorough documentary about Christianity; you can't just create a world in which
everybody and their brother is shamelessly, overtly racist in order to truly address what racism is like today, etc. It's why I can't
stand most of Michael Moore's stuff; he edits a lot of truth out of his movies so he can set up straw men to make some point
(which I might actually agree with).
It's fucking dishonest and even insulting.

.
Something tells me you've talked about this a lot!
But, to be.. err.. annoying - doesnt some of that stuff have to be really in some peoples faces to get them to even acknowledge that racism etc is happening?

That's one argument.
But, for instance, Blazing Saddles isn't subtle at all, and is way better in addressing racism.
Lincoln wasn't subtle, but managed to be incredibly eloquent.
I think you can make your point and make art at the same time, is all. Stuff like Haggis' Crash is just cheap. It's like, yeah, you can win
a fight with a kick to the balls, but that's a pretty sordid victory.
