what the fuck? what in the world do these people do with their lives?

i guess the benefit to it is that if i'm still working after noon, i can collect more overtime for this week.

so what time do you have to get up to get ready? 2:30? Holy crap.

I usually don't go to bed till 4am.

What do you do?

normally i start at 8. my alarm goes off at 6:30 and i end up laying in bed and not leaving til about 7:40. if i get up right away and leave, i can leave earlier as well, so thats my incentive.

normally my job is in office, but occasionally i get put out on site for various inspection jobs. they were supposed to do some work today, but the weather shut us down.

they opted to start extra early with todays work so that they can still do some of the planned stuff for tomorrow afterwards as well. thankfully i don't think i will have to stick around for most of it.

for this kind of work, i stay until its done with. usually its pretty close to a regular day, unless something gets backed up. but i think once i get to that point i will stop caring and will accept the mass of overtime that i will pick up this week.

I usually work a 4-4:30 pm shift atleast once a week atleast to pick up extra hours and catch up at work.

these last two weeks since my boss has been on holidays/@conferences ive been working 5:30 am-4:30 pm every day of the week. and pulling a 6-7 hour mid-day shift either saturday or sunday.

good. times.

i really wish i could!

its on site construction, so a book would get dirty beyond hell and it would be too noisy for me to really get anywhere with it. the shame of it is that its generally one of those work hard for 30 minutes, then sit around and do nothing for 30 minutes type of days. so i end up with hours of just standing around.

and people wonder why so many construction jobs go over budget!

I was just reading about crane operators, how their day works, what they get paid, etc. It's nuts.

Maybe you need a stack of magazines. Something more disposable and light reading. That's what I switch to sometimes if there's a
hysterically crying baby on the bus. :D

crane operators are top notch when it comes to billing. a good one with lots of years experience will often be the highest paid person on the site, including supervisors and such.

when i was doing soil inspection in the summer, i would usually take a magazine to flip through when i took breaks to sit down and just relax a bit. but this concrete stuff is just way too busy surroundings and not worth bringing anything. i have to cart around so much equipment that carrying more than my lunch box with me is a hassle.

i also like to bring my ipod along for the ride. but that's usually not a good idea when you've got cranes and other enormous machines hauling thousands of pounds of earth and equipment.

Yeah, I was thinking about this. It'd probably be about as smart as me riding a bike downtown with earbuds in.

people like you give me a bad name! i would totally be content with working closer to 30 hours a week compared to 40 if i could get away with it. i mean, i probably don't even get 30 hours a week accomplished anyway.

but shit, if i make the effort to actually get into work early, i make sure its worth it and leave at the corresponding time. and weekend, you can forget about it

hey, i didnt do any boring work yesterday, it was all concrete

a rundown of my day...

4am - arrive at office, load stuff on truck
5am - arrive at site, start setting up equipment
6am - first concrete truck arrive, we have commenced
8am - the sun shows up
10am - we finish part one, go wait for the next pour to start
11am - pour 2 starts and we think all we need to do is make a sample and we can go
1230pm - finally get out of there after watching and waiting for guys to finish the concrete pad
130pm - finally get home, rip off my dirty clothes and pass out in bed

what a bunch of crap that was
