This year is the year of Wu Zi.

From infoplease:

A Ratty Year

Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named
a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born
in rat years tend to be leaders, pioneers, and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking. Gwyneth
Paltrow, Ben Affleck, Samuel L. Jackson, William Shakespeare, and Mozart were all born in the year of the rat.

I almost made a numerology joke yesterday. True story.

NO! It was Tuesday!

I guess I lied. But I did almost make a numerology joke. Tuesday.

Is that the red envelope thing?

Yep,I love that jazz..used to work with a Cantonese guy who always had about 3 grand in cash on him in a money belt (Pai Go problem) and I would watch him stuff the envelopes with different denominations of bills, right up to hundreds and then he'd shuffle them all up so he didn't know what bill he was giving the recipient...I got a 50 spot one year!...(y)

i wasn't trying to be clever. i was genuinely confused

Ah. Sorry.

No -- I think astrology and numerology are pretty silly. So we were talking about candidates the other day and one of the guys was
laying out this pretty outrageous way that he strategically voted for who he did. It wasn't a candidate he believed in -- it was more
like "If I do this then when the votes go this way this candidate's popularity will go up in the other party because of perceived electability"
da da da da da. I really thought he was about to bring lunar cycles into it. So I imagined that, if the topic fell to me next, I'd bring
numerology into it. Fortunately, the conversation turned a different way. My co-workers still don't always quite know what to do
with my sense of humor.

Happy Lunar New Year! (http://stamp-search.com/images/tuv9602ss-yrrat.jpg)

I don't like calling it Chinese (I'm boycotting just about anything Chinese....) as it's celebrated in just about every Asian country
(and in other parts of the world as well). It's always on the 2nd new moon after winter solstice.

I'm a rat, btw. This year is the year of the Earth Rat. I'm a Metal Rat, and silver there as well.
Maybe that's why I like silver jewelry and not any other metal...

it's only the western people who call it "chinese new year" anyways.

*overly-defensive*

I didn't call it that. I was just quoting. :(

said "Happy New Year."

hey, I just made a thread for this yesterday mr. Alphabet.

But, I'll drop by to say happy new year anyway!

Going to a parade in Flushing tomorrow. I'm stoked. May have a chance to see the splendor at Radio City too.

I'm the Year of the Rat: Supposed to be a Prosperous Year. We'll See

I still believe you can't top The Year of the Cat~Because it had that Catchy Song

It was to Chinese Astrology what "Capricorn" by Motorhead did for the regular Astrological Signs
