So, I live in Pittsburgh. Im just curious whether anyone in the know has a clue if this show on March 4th is a full-blown Beastie show, or if it is an instrumental/jazzy/"gala show" deal. Id like to come, but I dont think I want to shell out a hundred bucks and not see a full on hip hop show.
Dont get me wrong. Id dig - hell, I want to see - a musical set in the middle or something. But I want to make sure Im not gonna get a Gala Show.
Just curious. Oh, and whats this Terminal 5 place like? Like I said, Im in Pittsburgh. Ive never been to Terminal 5 or seen Beasties
Thanks all

Trust me

The Gala Events were as good if not better than a "normal" Beastie Boys show.

I'll back that up for sure-out of the two shows i saw last year-one being a gala event-there was no or little difference and both blew me away. also,i read an interview around the time in The Big Issue(british mag) where mike d said that they were basically lying about the whole instrumental thing! Don't be a doubter-go see them-it's bound to be awsome! My only concern would be if there were like twenty other bands on bill and boys would only get half hour slot.

I disagree. I loved the Gala Event, but if I only had one day to live, I'd want to see a "normal."

This show is going to be a warm up for the Langerdo (sp?) Festival, so I'm guessing the set will be similar to what a Festival set would be, which is a "regular" show. Probably about an hour and a half is my guess.

They did over an hour at the HIRO benefit show which was also a warm-up type benefit gig and they had around 10 other acts they were sharing the bill with that night.

Hip-Hop - YES
Over an hour set - YES
Instruments - YES

Amen to that.

Scratch: If you're a Beasties fan and you've never seen them live, try to haul ass to NYC. It's always a treat to see a band that can fill arenas doing a smaller show, and in my opinion the Beasties are at their best in front of 2000-3000 people. The Vegas and LA shows in the fall of 2006 were big favorites of mine and I think they were in similarly-sized venues. Like Rob said, the shows that fall were warm ups for the South American Festivals. The Beasties played most of the songs a first-timer would want to hear. I'd bet on this one providing more of the same.

And Scratch, you should show up early and meet some really cool fans in line. I'm really sorry I can't be there this time. I'm sure it's going to be big fun.

They should never do a hip hop only show again.

Beasties are instruments and hip hop so a mix of it would be great

There is a big difference between songs played with instruments (Sabotage) and instrumentals (the songs from the last CD).

I enjoy it when they break out the instruments during a hip hop show (as on the pageant tour and the shows in the fall of 2006), but I honestly did not love the gala events. It's always fun to see the Beasties in a club, but I did not enjoy hearing a dozen or more instrumental songs at one go. I believe that most of the audience agreed with me because of the reaction they had to the handful of semi-hip hop songs during the gala shows. I'm glad they did it and I'm glad I saw it, but I don't need to ever see it again.

I would swap any of the regular shows I'd seen to have them bring the Gala down-under. Don't shit on new, fresh things.
