It's really slow lately so I was thinking I'd throw this up for discussion. When you hear the lyric "What the bloodclot, I rap a lot" do you think "man that is great," or "damn that lyric blows." I kind've go back and forth, just thought I'd get some other people's opinions.

I'd have to agree.

I think it's one of the muppet show songs that includes the line 'it's not what you do it's just how you do it....' - I think a lot of rap's like that - it looks riduculous on paper but styles out alright when delivered right.
I think a lot of rap lines are like that. They sound unfit at that moment, however is that in particular unfit? I view that as Adrock making the relation of a blood clot with him rapping a lot, as in they both represent a lot of something. Hard to explain, but that's how I see it.

I think its great - I agree with the comment about the delivery being the key.
Check the mix on my signature (shameless plug!) - i decided to leave that bit as an acapella cos its a strong vocal part.
It's Adrock, from the beastie boys. A band known very well to have fun with stoopid lyrics.
Seriously, calling out one rhyme because it's a bit offbeat is kinda deprecating.
Celebrate the fact that not all hip hop is over inflated ego waffle. (y)

i think its brilliant in the capacity that he's making fun of wack rapping. "i rap alot" is obviously not a stab at trying to write some heavy or witty lyrics, but a joke in that it's a totally juvenile, amateur line that's supposed to emulate the shallowness and unimaginative nature of many modern pop rappers. the only difference here is that he's implying it as a joke. whether he's doing it to be funny or implicate ABC rhymers, he's not taking it serious to the effect of kicking "world class" "ground-breaking" rhyme schemes. Its a pun in that he's being simple for the sake of being simple or just making a statement...................:o, if that makes any sense.......

i don't have it yet but will soon have the anthology book-really looking forward to reading about their thinking behind some of the less obvious lyrics and/or if we're reading too much into it! i think it could be 50/50

Isn't he referring to John Bloodclot? Or the Jamaican curse, bloodclot!

Hmmm....you maybe on to something here. I've always assumed the bloodclot referred to some inside joke or obscure reference that I didn't get. Which is what a lot of their lyrics are...

I think the Jamaican curse theory is right, smart thinking!
I'm no expert but I saw something on tv last night and they had it written as 'blood clart' and were using it as a put down

Oh yeah bloodclot is a big word in dancehall music. Its like slang or whatever and its a major insult in Jamaican culture to be called that. I think Adrock was just being sarcastic when he used it, like he's mocking people who use that word.
