Throughout the tour and recently for this benefit, fans here have been (rightfully) bemoaning the fact that pre-sales mean nothing special -- everyone has the password; it's all over the net; scalpers buy up the pre-sale in minutes.

For what it's worth to anyone who's listening, a suggestion from Kanye's camp for making presale passwords meaningful. Not saying it's scalper proof but it's better than a skeleton key:

Beginning TODAY, members can log-in to your Fan Club Page to retrieve your personal Pre-Sale Passcode! This code is unique to you and can be used to gain access to the Fan Club exclusive pre-sales on Ticketmaster.com. Your passcode will allow you to purchase up to four (4) presale tickets to Kanye's 2008 Glow In The Dark Tour. There is no limit to the number of times you can use your code, but you may not purchase more than 4 tickets during the pre-sales for this tour. (Ticket availabilty is limited.)

Yeah something like that would be pretty cool. It sucks the way it usually works out with shows selling out fast and tickets popping up on ebay right away. Its a pretty regular thing for bands to have presale tickets for fanclub members I guess.

I remember my sister used to buy all kinds of tickets to go see Phish all over the place. I wonder how many people would join a beastie boys fanclub. That'd be cool but it might be a mess. I remember seeing a thing about presale tickets for Tom Petty's summer tour this year going on sale to his fanclub members.

But then scalpers are probably just going to end up joining the fanclub to get the tickets. I remember seeing on the Glastonbury Festival website that you have to mail in a picture of yourself when you buy your tickets and that picture goes on the ticket so you can't sell your tickets after you buy them. Thats pretty extreme but I bet it worked.

Didn't the Beasties do something with the small club show in Seattle where there were no hard copy tickets? You had to show your ID at the club and they matched that up to people who actually bought tix online.

Go back to selling tickets at the box-office of the venue only.

Want tics, go to NYC and buy them yourself.

that's what they did in santa cruz too...

the grateful dead had a phone number that you called to get pre-order ticket information... mail order tickets with strict guidelines, but you got tix way ahead of the ticketmaster crowd.
