Here's an easier link. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr0vR9bDkp4)

I have not much hopes for this, though. Only the first one got it right, then they started substituting "cute" for wit and fucked it all up.

even easier (http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/indianajones.html?showVideo=1).

all the indy flicks were great, hopefully this one will be as well.

I have a feeling their going to lean on "old man" jokes so much it'll get really fucking old.

the indy films are generic, popcorn adventure flicks, and not instances of visionary, film making genius. it's steven spielberg, so you know what to expect. they all had their corny moments and cliches, but so what, who cares, they're fun movies. nothing more, nothing less.

You're describing the third one -- capable, but nothing great. The second one is shrill, mean-spirited shit. The first one is truly special.

Raiders does. One of the great movies.

Last Crusade barely passes. That jig shot revealing the bridge is fantastic.

But basically, the way humor is used sinks Temple and Crusade. It's like Indiana Jones went from being Sean Connery to Roger Moore overnight.

whats wrong with having a laugh! some of the best bits of raiders were the funny bits - geezer with the knife for example

New one looked allright - doesnt look like they have overdone it.

I agree with you about the old man thing tho.

Exactly. But the shrieking female and short round shit in Temple isn't funny. That's bad John Hughes, right there. Any minute and Short
Round would've kicked Indy in the crotch for a laugh.

Raiders was witty and elegant and surprising and honed like a knife. That movie's gold. Crusade is brass -- it's got some pleasures,
but it's closer to Romancing the Stone than Raiders of the Lost Ark. And Temple of Doom is just bad. Bad bad bad bad bad.

Part of what was so great about Raiders was how deft and organic the humor was. Even the gross out, black comedy, like the guy taking the propeller to the face. Oh shit!

Temple was like the counterfeit version; Crusade was the coasting but passable finale.

And now this.

I too saw it before Jumper (saw it again anyways) and on the big screen with the theme music... my innards were jumping for joy and I was trying to silence my squeal.

The desire to see the Indiana Jones trailer for the first time is the ONLY reason anybody should see Jumper. I haven't seen Jumper, but that's because I'm a grown up.

Speaking of Fraternitys tonight I went to the Hollywood Blvd cinema near my house and got to join in at the Animal House 30 year reunion. Babs, Flounder, Boon, Otis and Niedenmyer where all there and (drumroll)....KATY! Thats right, today I got to speak with, shake hands and stare into the dreamy eyes of Karen Allen. Before we all watched animal house they showed the trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie. It was a fun night.

I watched Raiders and Temple yesterday. I don't get why everyone hates on Temple, I think it's awesome and pretty much as good as Raiders. You just have to enjoy the darker tone and accept Short Round for what he is.

abcdefz
02-23-2008, 12:17 PM
Because it sucks.

Plus it completely fucks up part of Indiana Jones' character.

It takes place before Raiders, which is already a mistake because you know Indy's never in real danger. But then he sees all the
voodoo stuff and whatnot, but then says in Raiders "I don't believe any of this hocus pocus." Huh!?

Of course, George Lucas has no problem rewriting history when he wants. Hence, kissing siblings in Empire somehow have "always known," in Return of the Jedi, etc.

And besides that -- it's not just that Temple is "darker" -- that in and of itself could be pretty exciting. It's that it's just mean.
From eating monkey brains to shrill women and fucking annoying as hell "adorable" child, it's pretty much every bad impulse Spielberg
and Lucas have amped up to 11. It's almost as bad as Hook. Maybe it's worse, even.

Hell, even Spielberg and Lucas admit now that it's a cockup. Rare insight and self-awareness from them, but it's true.

You're a hater. It's a good film, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. Everything you have picked on is highly opinionated. The whole monkey brains/weird food thing is typical of Lucas. Whimsical visual comedy in the background of a scene interspersed with a serious conversation, check his other movies.

And Lucas saying it's a cock up now; Lucas just made three shit films.

I agree completely. Temple was a huge cockup and everyone knows it.

Now, for the trailer. With about 54% new footage it is really hard to say if this is going to be good. One thing I hated was that stupid part where Indy goes through the window and says 'Damn, I thought it was closer.' Maybe it's just me but that seemed like a lame joke to make. Also, Shia LaBoef? I dunno about this.

No doubt the trailer amps everyone up but wtfffff why show mostly old shit? We know that he's done, show us some good new shit.

TimDoolan

I don't think Temple was bad, the story was just weaker than Raiders and Crusade.

It doesn't really fit in the 1st and 3rd movie, and I guess that's why people were pissed about it.
