I really really hate when people call me a million times and leave me messages each time even though I have not called them back yet.
ESPECIALLY when I've said I'll call back when I get a chance.
HATE.
HATE HATE HATE.
Seriously. Get off my fucking jock, please.
And when they call when they KNOW I'm at work and cannot pick up, wtf?
What's worse though, is I know someone who does this all the time and then they don't even take a breath before calling everyone we know, INCLUDING my Mother, to try and get in touch with me.
I'm about to choke a bitch.

I dont enjoy it when people call me at work and interrogate me about results and act like they dont have me on speaker phone in some goddamn board-room waiting for me to say too much or contradict myself.

ba01, it sounds like you need an intervention with that annoying person.
my phone pet peeve is the person who picks up the phone, but doesn't talk for a few minutes because they are carrying on some other conversation. why did you answer then?

i just hate when people play with their phone, or answer it and carry on a long conversation when i am visiting.
its like, shit, you invited me over, so talk to me now! call the punk back!

I get annoyed with lengthy phone calls unless it's that special someone. I can't stand that "the phone's pressed to my ear for too long" feeling. I like calls to be to the point and done.
I also hate when there are pauses and then you both talk at once then pause then a "no you go" then a "no what were you sayin?" and so forth...
Oh then when you can't barely hear the other person and have to say "huh?" all the time and give up then pretend you know what's goin on.
Yeah, guess I'm not a phone call fan. Sometimes I think of calling some old friends but then stop myself because I think, god, what if they're in the middle of something. I dunno, phone calls just seem so intrusive to me unless it's a business or what not... k, now I'm just babbling.

I hate answering the phone only to be told immediately, "Hang on a second" while the person finishes some other conversation.
Um... dial when you're ready to speak, eh?

Yep, that's the 2 second rule with me. If you call me and I say "hello" and you don't answer prompt but I can hear you talking to someone else, I just hang up and wait for you to call back when you're ready to talk.
Another thing I hate is people chewing gum and smacking their chops when they talk to me. Bothers the shit outta me.

Happens to me all the time.
I generally hate talking on the phone. People only call me when they want something from me.

Yup. What I love is when someone calls back and protests, "Why'd you hang up on me!?" I just say I couldn't hear anybody talking.

I hate when people call me without a specific reason.
"Just calling to say hello." is not a valid reason.
The only person that can get away with it is my wife, and even she knows that the follow-up to "Just calling to see how the day is going" better be something like "Pick up bread on your way home".
The phone was invented to relay information from one place to another as quickly as possible, not to waste time when you don't feel like working.
That's what the internet is for.

i used to never answer my phone unless it was a call form my parents. i've gotten away from that more or less, but there are lots of times where i won't bother getting up to get the phone and figure if its important, they will leave a message

I find myself getting collection calls for one guy and used to get medical calls for another guy.
The collections calls are great -- I get home and there's a message saying "This is personal business matter for John Doe. If you are
John Doe, please wait for the remainder of this message. There will be a three second pause." Which it's not, so my machine doesn't
kick off, so it starts leaving me this contact information. So even though I've called and said I'm not this guy, it's already "confirmed,"
and I can't seem to get off the contact list.
I've lived here for almost three years now.
The medical calls were of more concern, but after a few months of calling back, they seem to have straightened out all their records.

I'm getting the same exact call. At least one every other week.

...and you've probably had your phone number even longer than I've had mine.
You'd think that when you call them and say "I'm not him" they could see from your caller I.D. that the number is in a new name...

I hate being put on hold for extended amounts of time...like if it's a company or business call that's one thing but if I'm chatting with a friend and they have me on hold longer than a minute. Then they usually call back and are like "Why'd you hang up??!!"

wow, that is so rude! i've never heard of people doing that here and it's certainly never happened to me.
my friend in the US occasionally puts me on hold with her call waiting thing.
but it's only for a couple of secs and she's pretty apologetic.
my only phone peeve is people calling too late. that and having to speak on the phone to my mother in law. at all.
she usually says "WHAT?" really aggressively to everything i say.

I pretty much just avoid the phone because:
- a friend that's all like "I'm coming over to your house right now!" or "Wanna come over?!" and the worst, "There's a party, I'm coming to pick you up!" I know I'm no fun, but I need to be warned of these things ahead of time.
- every bit of bad news I've ever gotten has come from the phone it seems. There have been too many "Your mom got in a car accident." or "Your aunt got beat up, raped, and thrown out of a vehicle during a drug deal." or "Your cousins got taken away." It has traumatized me, and I always break down crying and people stare at me like in the movies haha. :(
- family members that I don't know/haven't seen or heard from in a long time that I don't wanna talk to 'cause it's too awkward and then I feel bad 'cause they found me on myspace and stalk me and say "Why do ya never call me or answer your phone?!" and I have to make up some excuse, then finally they catch on and take it personal and think I'm a bitch. Yeah I realize that was a long sentence.
- you have to keep talking at all times and keep the conversation going or it's awkward!
- being kept on the phone forever, ugh. I got shit to do and they're just wasting my time. When there's a pause for a long time I finally work up the courage to say "Well I gotta go..." and then they go, "Wait, blalalala....."

Yup. Believe it or not, Americans can be kind of rude and self-absorbed sometimes.
But anyway... this practice has even spread to businesses now. They'll auto-dial people, then say, "Please hold while we connect you
to an operator." That's unfathomable to me. I can't imagine who would actually stay on the line.
