jesus.. has anyone seen kanye live recently... talk about taking the piss.

i just got back from good vibes (aussie festival) and he headlined it. now, i haven't seen daft punk live, but i've seen film clips to songs off Alive, which shows them...live, of course, and it's quite impressive on their behalf, but... i almost felt embarassed watching Kanye tonight... he was good when he was rhyming, but the beats, the 'in-between-songs' periods, the outfits, the band... just totally ripping off Daft Punk, and doing a poor job at it. it's like he is trying to cash in on the raver indie techno kid of today; the fluro sunnies, high kicks, small singlet type of fag*

stop it kanye, stick to hip hop... not pop........

wait, this is kanye we talking about. i might have just contradicted myself.

*not actually a fag but... is to me.

More and more I find myself hoping Kanye plummets back into obscurity. Dude was the wrong person to make it big.

I bet some amount of money, big or small, that Cypress Hill were a pretty big crowd-pleaser.

Remember that thread when everyone called me crazy for saying 50 was more "street" than Kanye?

kanye is better than 99% of popular artists out there right now, im glad theres something on the radio i can respect and like.

he's got intelligent lyrics and original beats, i dont give a fuck what colour neon sunglasses he's wearing, and you shouldn't either.

hey, i love him as much as you. i got down to every song he spat out last night, but you couldn't help but wonder why he made his live show like that. i did enjoy it, yeah, but a lot seemed unnecessary.

and yeah, cypress were plenty-fuckin-good. i couldn't get anywhere near the stage. they had the crowd, for sure.

Whatever,

I lost any confidence in yours and 99% of the rest of this forums' opinion on Hip-Hop music a long time ago.
8th diagram threads goin' 4 pages and whatnot, bullshit like that makes this whole forum look suspect. It sold 120k copies, that's pathetic.

Keep telling yourselves Kanye is street, and keep telling yourselves that Wu-Tang are still relevent.

Is that a diss on wu-tang, or just a reference to some people saying they are still relevant and you pointing out low record sales equate to not being relevant?

if the person listening to the group finds their music enjoyable, wouldnt that make them "relevant"?

Oh and 120k in 2007 is gold in 2000.

were you there? that's not a dig; serious question.
it was everything about the show as a whole. right before 'flashing lights' (i think) some woman, or man, came out in some weird robot outfit and he was controlling her with a remote? why? what's the.... point?

he wasn't wearing a robot outfit but two of his outfits featured neon lights (his sunnies + inside of his collar) hip hop or rave? i couldn't tell... the whole stage + the huge mofo'ing screen in the background just reaked of 'that looked cool elsewhere, i wanna use it'.

what absolute guff are you talking?

i dont care if kanye is street or wu-tang are relevant, i like listening to the music. to base your music choices based on what krs-one says is street, or is top of the charts? do you just listen to 50 cent?

Sales are much smaller compared to what they were in 2000 and you're seeing less platinum and gold releases as a result. So selling 120k is a pretty big accomplishment and you can compare it to going gold back in 2000.

maybe its fitting than. KRS1 was giving props to 50 cent, while GZA was telling him he could suck his dick.

That thread was nearly 4 months ago. Let it go. You are still misreading what everybody said in that thread. And this is a different topic all together.

Kanye makes me laugh though, he's takes it too far sometimes, but it's an act...the point of performing live is to entertain the crowd and the fact that he's packing arenas left and right proves that it (as well as his music) is working.

And let the side show begin.

yeah no doubt. at this festival, people who actually knew his lyrics stayed; people who didn't mind him were not impressed. i'm just in the middle - can see why people dug it/can see why people hated it.

edit: and there was alot more people that stayed/liked it so i shouldn't complain tooooo much

Agree, but also disagree. Realistically, how many people are there because they think Kanye is an amazing artist and they really dig his stuff, and how many people are there because the media and everything else has influenced them into thinking that he is a good artist and they really like what hes doing?

I think theres a decent amount of both. Because lets be honest, he does have talent, but at the same time how many more talented artists are out there whom the Kanye-concert-going-public have just never heard of?

wu tang surprsingly still is relevant i have seen so many people at my high school wear wu-tang shirts or rock the w on their backpack or myspace profiles

so yeee

kanye's seems to be getting all his clothes in tokyo lately

but i like

i believe you. but where im at, its just not like that.

although i am getting a pretty big crew together for this wu show in rochester on 4/20. should be sick.

but at the same time the place they are having it is a place i used to play indoor soccer at. and this booty areana football team here used it to play in. they go from playing staduims and huge shows and stuff to an armory in rochester new york. idk if that is necessarily a signal of relevence. but im fine with it because i get to see the clan when i never really thought i would. and it doesnt make them any less quality, so its all good.

I doubt people would spend money to see an artist that the media has influecned them is good...really how much media coverage of hip-hop is there outside of hip-hop?

I saw Kanye live on his '07 tour with Lupe Fiasco and Common. Common puts on an amazing show. He was the best thing there. Kayne was anti-climactic...He started and stopped more songs than he actually finished. It was pretty boring.

His beats are amazing, but [mostly on the last record] his raps just sound lazy. But whatever, if people want to dig him, they can dig him. I don't care.

big fucking difference between kanye and....gangstarr, mf doom, madlib, styles p, clipse, del the phunky homosapien, phsyco realm, kool keith, pharoahe monch, three six mafia, ect.

ya they all rap. but theres a big difference between kanye and the rest.

when you fall under the "favorite music category" of girls on myspace and shit with the likes of jay-z, 50 cent, ect. you have moved beyond hip hop.

people like you and me, know all those rappers i listed above.

people i am talking about, that you are denieing even exist probably havent heard of any of those other rappers i listed above.

the media plays a big role in that. because kanye is most certainly not above even 1 of those rappers i listed in skill. yet he is the richer and more famous than them, maybe all of them put together.

thats my point ya knucklehead.
