i am in the market to purchase a turntable for my home use. i don't need anything special really, i just want to make use of the stacks of vinyl that have been sitting in the attic for the past years.

so i'm looking for suggestions and the like. i really don't know the difference i get between a cheaper one and something more expensive. i'd like to keep the cost relatively low, since its a somewhat limited use, but i want to get something that will last.

brands, models, online retailer suggestions would be great!

*if you're not wanting to DJ with it. i think numark makes a great turntable. i am biased though as i am learning on numark.

I'd say get a Technics 1200 for the pure quality and nostalgia of it but it'll cost.

You can look here for different brands, great site I've ordered from in the past. You might want to try a Numark or Stanton. I can't suggest much more on what to get considering I've only played on Technics and Vestax.

Most of these turntables are for djing even though I wouldn't touch most with shittiest stained balls

Some differences between cheap and pricier models

cheap vs expensive

belt-drive vs direct drive
torque/tracking quality
tonearm quality
sound dampening on bodies/platters
bpm settings (this might be a consideration if your collection has 78s

If you're not too picky you could probably pick one up at Best Buy

i am not looking to do any dj-ing, at least not in the near future.

i just want to get something to put into an entertainment center to listen mostly. i don't have anything but LP's in my collection now, but thats because i havent really looked much since i don't have a player of my own to listen to them with.

Well, ultimately it depends on what quality playback you want. If you're adding this table to a relatively impressive system you might want to shell out a little bit more for quality and style.

The Stanton's should be decent for your needs...stay away from Gemini, I haven't been near anything Gemini in awhile but know from the past their equipment doesn't hold up well.
