View Full Version : Trying to get a mortgage

Yeah, the guy in the $50 pants and $40 T-Shirt needs a loan! COME ON!

So we've been to people, and I only work part-time (albeit for a long time in the one spot, if you don't count the time I worked with hitmonlee's ex) but it might not be a problem. So they might chuck a few bob our way for us to buy some piece of shit that somebody was probably murdered in ( Murder House irl). I know you've all got problems, too.

Seriously, I'm quite nervous because part of me wants it to happen (for us both), and I'm simultaneously scared of not being able to live up to the responsibility. Publicly, I'd like to apologise to Robert, but that's beside the point. If we bought a house, the mind would boggle. Responsible for our own security..... responsible if things fall apart.......Responsible.........:( and a little bit of :)

I'm with you on this. I've just gotten through that phase.

I just thought 'fuckit I'm sick of paying someone else mortgage'.

Our place right now is due to go on the market. We've got this budget that's practically infallible. We can't borrow much, but it's something. buaaaaaaar

How about renting a cheaper property and saving a bit of cash?

Kid Presentable
02-21-2008, 09:08 AM
The money we'd be saving would only go towards a deposit in the long-run. I figure we'd be just as likely to get what we want as the owners of a sexed-up shitheap as we would be if we were renters.

Completely hear you, though. If we get stuck between choosing utter shite and rented comfort, we'd go the rental for sure.

It's a safe bet. It was what I was prepared to do If I couldn't get this place i'm buying now.

I guess I just lucked out. Good luck to you too bro (y)

It's not looking great right now. But cheers.

camo
02-21-2008, 09:48 AM
sorry to hear that.

If it's any consolation, I had no idea I'd be in the position that I am now only a few months a go. Shit just seems to work itself out somehow...

Kid Presentable

I wasn't even going to mention it. It's that hare-brained.

camo

But thats the beauty of this place (y)

i wonder why people think hares are stupid. they don't seem to be less academic than your average leporids.
EDIT: okay, so harebrained is more ker-azy and off the wall than stupid. mad march hares and all of that shit. i get it now. PHEW. chillax.

kid p, i have been thinking the same thing. hence rent thread. why don't you wait until you graduate and enter full-time employment before looking for a mortgage? you'll have better and wider options then, surely?

Kid Presentable
02-21-2008, 10:08 AM
Yeah no doubt. I just can't be fucked with the rental rigmarole once again. It's probably the way it will go down, though.

I really, really think you're right on this, claire.

Oh shit, if you're still a student don't bother tying yourself down with a mortgage just yet. Who knows where your job will take you!?!?!?

i've been looking for a place myself, but havent called about getting a mortgage just yet. the benefit that i have is that ill have been in the working worlkd about a year by the time i move into a new place, so that should help.

plus, shits cheap here, so i won't be taking out an exorbitant amount of cash

good luck with the hunt though, man, its a lot of work!

You guys would only laugh at the kind of place we're going for. If the approval goes through, at least it'll be a start. It has big windows. All I can think about is burglaries. We'll need security-mesh and a big fuck-off alarm system. Burglaries and contents insurance and alarms and fucking facing a robber in a knife-fight naked at 3am in my hallway are all I can think about and it's fucking me up.

Thanks for the good cheer, all. (y)

1. Buy the shithole if it's not too much more than what you plan on paying to rent.

2. Graduate.

3. Sell the shithole after you graduate for a mild profit and buy something respectable.

I bought my first home when I was 21.
At the time, I was paying more for rent on my apartment than I was going to pay for my mortgage, so I actually saved money by buying.

I flipped that house a few years later and walked away with about $20k which I used towards the place I'm in now.

Also, buying a shithole in the ghetto gives you street cred.

Depressing thoughts:

I just spent the weekend in a million dollar holiday home on the coast. The people who own it also have an apartment (4 bedrooms, no less) in a swanky inner city development. They were not in the house as they were on the Queen Victoria, cruising SE Asia and the east coast of Australia for a month.

The "ensuite" of the master bedroom was BIGGER THAN MY LOUNGEROOM. And my loungeroom is fairly generous.

The friends we stayed with chatted about their recent first home purchases - two bed places, just over half a mil. Single people. People with Audi's and a penchant for $80 steaks.

WHERE DID I GO WRONG

Forrestfield, or The City of Frompton. So not quite as ghetto as it could be. But the exposed glass and no security make it a sitting duck. I point-blank asked the agent if the owners had many break-ins, and he said "There's break-ins everywhere" which didn't put my mind at ease.

So, the repayments would be huge and I'm still at uni. Part of me sort of hopes this doesn't go through. It's not quite the right time. We'll see, I guess....

hitmonlee
02-25-2008, 01:53 AM
ahh, in the bogan octagon. maybe you can put some 3M shield stuff on the glass.

Kid Presentable
02-25-2008, 02:00 AM
Yeah that glass treatment shit, or secure-view or somesuch. I've already sort of got a budget for an alarm sorted out, so if we get the house it might not be an issue.

thats the reason i can look in decent neighborhoods and find dozens of places up for a reasonable price. and apparently PA is one of the more improving states. but given the fact that im not going for a house i can't afford, i feel good about this.

this thread is a good reminder that i need to call the money man and see where i'll fall on this mortgage thing

Kid Presentable

Yeah, we got the approval. Not doing it, though. Utter suicide at present. Maybe this time next year.

ah man. I'm having the hardest time with mine.

Closing date has been pushed back twice already and now we don't even know the closing date.

We have a new loan officer now so all the paperwork that was previously submitted has been lost so, we've got to re-submit it.

It's a huge pain in the ass right now. I know we'll still get it but I'm ready to get it as of a long time ago.

Kid Presentable

So we're pre-approved to build a house now, in Wattle Grove, which is just across from Frompton. So it's kind of like the LBC. The Indian family looked like Crips, anyway.

the windows are in, we're waiting on the doors and then the interior people do their shit whoop

Wow, that's fantastic.

Don't go crazy buying stuff for the place. I made a big mistake thinking I needed new dishes and towels and all kinds of things to pull it together and make it perfect, but several years down the line I wish I had saved some money and bought things that I really wanted. I'm throwing away all the shit I bought when my house was new.

You can use sheets for window coverings for a year or more.
