to go along with the heap of other threads about....

i have been looking for my own house, mostly 3 bedroom places. but i was thinking about asking some friends to move in with me for a while just for the company, convenience to them not having to find a place and to pay off the mortgage faster.

here's the catch: i am looking for a place that i want to live in for a while (potentially a family raising ground) and i am going to want to do some fairly extensive renovating in almost any place that i go into.

how do i phrase it to someone that i would like it if they would share rent with me, but there is a good chance that at least one room will be under construction at all times? (and that the work would be done to my likings, not theirs)

As long as you weren't working on "their" room...I don't see it being a big deal

your friends will probably end up hating you. unless you are the most laid-back person when its comes to personal property ever.

I lived with someone in an old house they owned that they were continually doing renos on.
he had a full carpentry set-up in the basement and thought nothing of using the table saw at 12 pm at night. it was horrible. sure I paid somewhat cheaper rent but it got so Id go out of my way to do something to piss him off just because he was fucking with my hometime so much with all his shit.
passive aggressive I know, but when your home is no longer your refuge you do things you dont normally do.

that and he was a total nazi because if all of the roomies are sharing a leased place and they are messy its kinda like "meh were renters" but when its your house and you see your roommates being slobs and fucking up your carpet or scratching a wall etc. it gets personal rrrrrrreal fucking quick.

i'm pretty laid back in general, but i would probably get bugged out if they started to slop over something new right after i picked it up.

and i doubt i would work too late into the night, unless i really needed to finish something up. but i'm usually one to work in the daylight and don't mind pushing that sort of thing back a bit if i need.

i guess i'll have to be more specific when asking people if they are intersted
