Finally all my hard work has paid off. I'm really looking forward to getting out in the world and advancing my knowledge of labor/social history in an MA program.

I'm sort of nervious about the amount of work that is about to come my way but I love to do research and I love organizing data. Love it.
I'm more pumped about possibly being a TA.

It's a school in Canada eh, I'm not naming names though.
It's finally sunk in. Every member of my family seems to be on the horn with someone else yakking about how I got in to my MA on my first shot, etc. It's a litte irritating but hey I earned bragging rights at this point.

wow, congratulations! go for it!
quite a coincidence - today i spent half my time researching funding options for masters/phds because i am seriously thinking about returning to university to become a lecturer.
when i completed my undergraduate degree i was offered a scholarship (full tuition fees plus a living allowance) to undertake my masters degree. i turned it down to try freelancing in film, which i understand now was a huge mistake but necessary then - if i took the masters at the end of that i would have left to give working on films a bash regardless. it was only when i spoke about what i had passed up i realised this was the only subject i was really passionate about.
i didn't realise how lucky i was to be given the money to do this masters. my potential supervisor told me only 7% of the people in my discipline (film/television studies - not practical, more theoretical) manage to get funding for their research. quite understandable really, as more people throw money at, you know, useful things like science and engineering, not a filmic exploration of black lesbians of the american south on film and representations of race, sexuality and gender. feminism and bodies. mise en scene and movement. no no. ahaha.
i'm hearing you on the teaching assistant thing, too. that's what excites me as well. teaching things which interest you to other people and learning from them as well - that's the benefit of a subject which is sort of esoteric, people can bring new ideas from a variety of areas. i would never have thought, previously, that i would have had the confidence, ability or patience to even think about teaching at university level but naw, it's awesome. i really surprised myself.
it'll be fantastic, enjoy yourself. do you want to teach in the long term, too?

In the long term I want to go for my PhD and work as a professor at a university. Doesn't really matter where, but my degree is going to be specific soooo....it kind of requires me to stay on the Maritimes up here in Cananda eh.
Really though, this is just a way to make money. I want to write books, novels and plays. Those will come with time and for now its all about researching and finishing those degrees. I have been trying to write a one-act play and it is almost done, but I've got a huge problem trying to come up with a good middle section. Sounds wierd but the first and last scenes are done.
Cosmo- Money is always fantastic to get from universities/colleges. It's basically saying 'we will pay for you to keep doing this'!

In a sexy update one school offered me 25k to go, another 21k. It's going to be hard deciding which one to go to because each is a unique program....I'm already trying to run numbers and figure out exactly what I want to do.
