Almost every place you live has something peculiar about it, good or bad, I think.
This was another one of those mornings when I rediscover that this is the first place I've ever lived in where the shower water gets too hot.
I think I have the temperature adjusted just fine and I get in and start going about my business, and the temperature starts to creep up and
up and now I'm scalding, re-adjusting, adding more cold water, turning down the hot... halfway through shaving and it's scalding again, and
I'm backing the "hot" way off. By the time I'm done showering, I may have turned "hot" from aa full turn to maybe just over an eighth.
It's weird.
We've got solar panes on the roof, and I'm assuming they heat the water, but I don't know what this would have to do with it.
This doesn't happen every single time I shower, but maybe once or twice a week. Bizarre phenomenon. I'm usually the only one awake
at this hour (4:30 a.m. or so), judging by me seeing no lights on (usually) when I leave.
Weird.
What about where you live?

shaving while having the shower blasting out hot water makes a-z a bit of a wasteful wally. even if it is heated by those solar panels, its probably still only a partial source of energy for that. tsk tsk sir!
I turn off my shower when im lathering AND when im shaving my legs etc. and then turn it on again when im ready to rinse off.
I am a beacon of energy efficient behavior.

The steam helps soften the beard.
No way I'm sitting in some cold tub naked while I shave.
I am very defensive about this.
I don't drive a car, I recycle, I turn off lights when I'm not in the room, etc. etc. I think my carbon footprint is pretty fucking small. :)

If you had houseguests would you require them to do the same?

guests? I barely even get a 3 hour visitor here more that once every 2-3 months. :(
though my best friend is the hugest eco-freak ever and even goes around and unplugs certain household appliances if its obvious im not using them when she's over. she's just good like that. she lives on a hippy island though, so shes a bit of an eco-vigilante.
and my boyfriend is the only other person who comes over (though has only been here for a mere 2.5 weeks in the past 7 months) respects me enough to do the same. though I didnt ask him to initially, he just sees its as showing he cares about me by giving a damn about the same things I do.

My fridge shuts on and off once every two months. Don't know why. It'll make a funky sound the night before it does it too. Then, the next day, I'll come down and notice the fridge isn't working. Then, I'll go to work, and return home to find that it is! I called a repair guy out the first time. He billed me $50 just to tell me nothing was wrong. "If it does it again, call me,I'll come back" Yeah right! What, do I have sucker written all over my face?? So, I just deal with it. I should name the tempermental fridge.
I also have a problem with the water temp in my shower though. Whenever I'm doing laundry, the water temp in the shower goes up and down. I was told by a friend who is a plumber, that it's my faucet knob. It's made by Khoen(sp?), and that brand is always a factor for sky rocket temps with no reason. Never tried to change it. I like it though, so I probably wont. Anyway, you might wanna check that out a-z.

Weirdest quirk ever: if we're cooking something in the kitchen (doesn't even need to be smokey, just steamy), the front doorbell will ring. It confused us for the first 5 times, then we've come to ignore it. It's really funny when we have guests over though, we'll tell them to go get the door and then yell at them when they come back and it rings again. (y)

i crank the hot water all the way up and direct it away from me and sit on this little low shelf built into the corner of the shower and steam myself everyday for about a half hour. then i clean up for like the last 5 minutes. i go to bed looking foward to that hot steam that i'll get in the morning.

there aren't any screens in the windows. the building appears to be sinking which is making the windows crooked and not parallel to the sill, letting in cold air aplenty.
there aren't any closets in the common areas, I had to make a tent in a corner to hide the mops, brooms and vacuum cleaner.
my roommate's cat poops in the sink.

hahaha
When it's really windy outside, the vent fan in our bathroom whistles like a spooky ghost.
And when the heat kicks up, it sounds like there's a miniature chain gang living in our floorboards. I'm not complaining though, because we have hot water heat and are in complete control of the temperature in our apartment, and from what I understand, that is a major rarity for a Minnesota rental.
